We arrived as NZ went to level 3 for the corona virus and announced level 4 for the next day. We were treated at the hotel to be told they had seen their staff home with the exception of the night porter. Our booking included breakfast which we were advised would not be available. No chef and no food (I had offered to cook it myself.) I checked on Expedia and they were still offering rooms to book but at a big discount to our price. I asked it we would get a discount, at least for the canceled breakfasts, but got a very firm and somewhat impolite NO. First morning the night porter opened the dining room and we used that to eat some supplies we had brought with us. We even managed to get access to a toaster to make toast. This room was not available to us the second morning and we believe the porter was reprimanded for letting us use it the first day. Under different circumstances I’m sure it is a very nice place but the management needs an attitude adjustment.
