Some towns have Mother Nature as their dominant attraction. This one has used its charm to maximum advantage. Relax and participate in numerous outdoor events.

Travel east of Vancouver, British Columbia, and you’ll arrive in Chilliwack, fondly called the Great Outside. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty and get active outdoors.

The city is located on the mighty Fraser River in a canyon of the same name. Try sport-fishing here for the 16 species inhabiting the local waterways. For a true test of fishing competency, hook a Pacific salmon or a white sturgeon, the largest freshwater fish in the Americas.

Surrounded by the Cascade Mountain Range, Chilliwack is truly an adventure playground. Go hiking, biking, kayaking and whitewater rafting, as they are all favorite pastimes, ranging from beginner to advanced levels. If you enjoy golf, select from nine courses dotting the landscape, including one that is carved into a dense forest or another with amazing mountain views. All have special features.

Experience a more tranquil side of nature just south of Chilliwack at Cultus Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the Fraser Valley. Relax on several beaches, go walking or bike riding on trails or have family fun at Cultus Lake Adventure Park or Cultus Lake Waterpark.

The area is important for its agriculture, which comes together with the bounties of the waterways to provide delicious food. Visit producers to appreciate the artisanal approach to food. Find your way around the Chilliwack Corn Maze that’s so large you need a passport to get through it.

This was gold rush territory in the days of the Wild West. Travel to yesteryear with a visit to Atchelitz Threshermens Association Pioneer Village or learn about the area’s First Nations heritage at Stó:lō

Research and Resource Management Centre. Plan a daytrip to nearby Bridal Veil Falls Provincial Park to view the 200-foot-high (60-meter) feature from a well-marked trail.

If a vacation focusing on the outdoors is in your plans, drive 65 miles (105 kilometers) east of Vancouver

to discover Chilliwack. Bring your hiking boots for adventures with amazing views.
