Home to one of Japan’s biggest event venues, this district has innovative trade shows, spectacular concerts, fascinating urban design and a seaside baseball stadium.

Makuhari is a glittering and elegantly designed commercial district on Tokyo Bay’s waterfront. Impeccably planned and characterised by sleek architecture and sculptural public gardens, Makuhari hosts some of Japan’s biggest events. Visit Makuhari to attend a stadium performance, check out an international convention and admire the modern urban landscape.

The main site in Makuhari is the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex, Japan’s second-largest convention centre. The complex has 11 exhibition halls, a conference hall and a spacious events hall, which hosts some of Japan’s largest trade shows, concerts and exhibitions. Check out regular conventions for new innovations in video games, automotive technologies and manga culture. You might be one of 200,000 audience members to watch a concert or festival with international or local acts.

From the convention centre, explore more of Makuhari’s attractions via elevated pedestrian walkways. Spreading out into the surrounding high-rise buildings and shopping complexes from Makuhari Messe, the walkways offer a safe and scenic way to explore the area. Wander along the towering promenades and find dining areas, hotels, shopping malls and department stores. Shop in Plena Makuhari Mall, Mitsui Outlet Park or the Aeon mall. A cinema complex is located north of the area’s local train station.

East of the station, find parks and open urban spaces. Check out Makuhari Seaside Park and QVC Marine Field, home of the Chiba Lotte Marines baseball team. Grab a snack from a nearby konbini (convenience store) and take a seat in Makuhari’s attractively designed recreational areas.

Makuhari is located in Tokyo’s outlying eastern region, along the shores of Tokyo Bay. It is best accessed via JR railway to Kaihin-Makuhari train station. Reach the district in 30 minutes by rapid train or 45 minutes by local train from Tokyo Station. Alternatively, catch a direct bus from Narita International Airport to Makuhari Messe within 40 minutes. Reach the wild rides and enchanting attractions of Tokyo Disney Resort within a 40-minute train ride from Makuhari.
