Casa Torre - Tower House - Tuscany
Casa Torre: wooden beams, red bricks, typical Tuscan style in the heart of the medieval Certaldo hilltop town, Tuscany.
Casa Torre is an elegant and spacious apartment recently restored, which is located in the historical and ancient castle Palazzo Stiozzi Ridolfi, dated 1200 !
Casa Torre faces right the main square and the central street of Certaldo Alto: Santissima Annunziata square and Boccaccio’s Street. The façade of Palazzo Stiozzi Ridolfi and its main medieval tower is exactly Casa Torre apartment!
Casa Torre has 3 double bedrooms, 2 windowed bathrooms with showers, a spacious kitchen and living room, a working area with desk, a laundry area with washmachine, the private tower/terrace, parking and courtyard (common shared areas).
Casa Torre is an historical castle recently renovated keeping the main architectural features: one of the three bedrooms is located in the tower and it is reachable by a vertical stair just like the way to go to the tower/terrace itself; the twinbedded room is an attic room.
Its main feature is for sure the medieval tower/terrace with a breathtaking view over the whole ancient town, the surrounding country and the famous towers of San Gimignano!
Other complimentary services: wi-fi, bed linen and towels, courtesy set, electric fans, heating (by payment), washmachine, electric and microwave oven. Casa Torre is located right in the heart of the medieval Certaldo hilltop town, in a restricted traffic area, always very peaceful and relaxing zone. Casa Torre is the only one accomodation in Certaldo Alto which has a private parking right in front the apartment.
Casa Torre is very easy to reach by car: upon your check-in just drive through the restricted traffic area as far as the accomodation and after your check-in we will take care to send your car details to the local police so that you will be free to drive anywhere in the old town during your whole stay with us.
In Certaldo Alto, in a very short walking distance you can visit the ancient Town Hall, Boccaccio’s house, the sacred art museum, Beppe Chiodo’s museum, SS. Jacopo and Filippo’s church, the Agostinian cloister as well as excellent restaurants, pizzerias, ice cream shop, wine shops etc…
In Certaldo Alto you can also find the tourism office and the ATM. In a short walking distance or by car you can visit also the panoramic green Canonica Park, with the typical Tuscan panoramas , for a lovely walk in the country, do some jogging or a pic nic! A few minutes by car: the public swimming pool (indoor and outdoor) and two supermarkets.
Casa Torre is very easy to reach by train too: Certaldo train station is very near to Certaldo funicular station which connects the down town area to the hilltop town where Casa Torre is located. Taxis available upon request as far the accomodation (reservation mandatory). A few steps from Casa Torre there is also another public car park (to use sometimes in case of festivals in town). Interestig places to visit nearby: San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Volterra, Colle di Val d’Elsa, Casole d’Elsa, Vinci, San Miniato, the Chianti region ecc…
Nearby activities: castels and medieval villages, museums, wine tasting, hot air balloon flights and helicopter, horseriding, cookery classes, in-house cooking chef, hot springs, jogging in the country, swimming pools, truffle hunting, rental car/motorbike/bike, local markets, typical restaurants etc…
Casa Torre is also available for wedding stay. In case of more guests, we have other accommodations available in the castle (please, contact us via our official website).

It was a pleasure staying in Casa Torre. Pleasant little town with amazing people. We were able to visit all the museums and dine close by. Each day we enjoyed walking and sightseeing. Would definitely stay in Casa Torre again.

Wonderful place. Would definitely stay here again.
The experience of staying in Certaldo Alto in this house was absolutely magical! The home is clean, spacious and comfortable. It is central in Tuscany, so perfectly positioned geographically for day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, Florence and many other towns. Also a couple fabulous restaurants inside the castle itself (Ristorante il Castello and L'Antica Fonte among others). Stunning views from the private terrace. We had wine and cheese and watched several sunsets from there. Before the trip I had some challenges communicating with the host, but once we arrived I found that she is very responsive on Whatsapp. Give this place consideration for your trip, you won't regret it!
This place is amazing! So historic, decorated well and everything you need! Very comfortable, peaceful and a unique stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Great place: fantastic view from the terrace at the top of the tower.
Air conditioning would be welcome.
Really frustrated that the owner waited the very last day to announce us the addditional fees per extra person!
As we were planning our 15-day European adventure with our teens/young adults, we decided to look for a location outside of Florence rather than staying in Florence. When we found it, this unit had only one review so we were hesitant to book a stay…but we are so very glad we took the risk! It was an absolutely perfect 2-night stay for our family!
The train from Florence to Certaldo was hot and crowded but once we took the funicular up to Certaldo Alto, we found ourselves away from the crowds of tourists. In fact, the castle community felt like a ghost town when we arrived…actually more like our own personal castle!
The unit itself was ideal for our family of 5…the only drawback was the second shower was too short for any of us to use (we are a tall family!). We were able to open all the windows and turn on fans for comfortable breezes during our hot June stay. The owners also provided a full book of information about the community with ideas for day trips and outings. For our day trips, we ended up hiring a driver to take us half of us to San Gimignano (which we loved!) and half took a train to Pisa.
We enjoyed a lovely patio dinner at L’Antica Fonte the first night in Certaldo Alto. For the second night, we ordered pizza from Da Messer Boccaccio and took it up to our veranda for the most beautiful sunset dinner. It was the loveliest and most memorable dinner view we enjoyed during our whole 2-week trip.
Would 100% recommend!
Poor communication from host, ignores messages, blames problems on others, unit not as described
We stayed in this property in July 2023.
Originally booked the property for 5 nights.
We advised host 73 days prior to our stay that we needed to shorten to 4 nights. They agreed with this and it was well prior to their 14 day cancel policy.
The host did not adjust our reservation in the system and is refusing to respond to messages regarding a refund for the night that we cancelled. VRBO is no help saying that this is the host's responsibility but has asked them to provide us a refund as well. The host also appears to be ignoring VRBO.
The host's representative who checked us in also showed up on the revised day of checkout at 10am to ensure we were out of the property and collect the keys, so this is not a miscommunication issue, this is blatant refusal to comply with the terms we agreed to in writing well before the commencement of our stay.
In addition to this, the unit is advertised as a 2 bathroom unit. When we arrived we were told both by the host's representative and the post it notes on the 2nd bathroom toilet that it was not working and could not be used. When we asked the host about accommodations for this they were again slow to respond to messages and eventually told us that it was just preferred that we not use it, which was in conflict with the check-in communication. We have pictures showing notes on the toilet indicating it is broken. Lastly the shower in the that bath sprayed all over the floor.
I would advise against doing business with this host.
Absolutely loved this place, walking distance to restaurants, train station. Beautiful views and comfortable accommodations. Hoping to come back some day!
