Independent in Centro

"Outstanding hotel, lovely for a small relaxing by the Douro river. Breathtaking views, amazing food and very nice interior decor. Staff are great (reception is exemplary!), however I would say that restaurant staff need to improve on their English as I felt service is much better in Portuguese than English (I’m Portuguese and my partner’s English which is how we noticed this difference). Otherwise, this has inspired us to think about going to yet another Octant hotel in future (we’ve been to the one in Évora before which is also great!)"

"Despite its location on a busy street, this hotel is centrally located, near the river, and the historic city center. Highly insulated, the small, but efficient, rooms are quiet and comfortable. The buffet breakfast is superb, served in a beautiful, light-filled penthouse room. The roofdeck, on a moonlight night is a plus. "

"When we arrived, the room we had was awful, bathroom tiles/ grout were dirty and moldy. Toilet and sink were ok. Overall a dingy room. My friend went to front desk to see if we could have another room, she was told not possible, hotel was booked. We figured it just 2 nights, we’ll bare it. Off we went to visit Coimbra. Upon our return (6 hours later) we noticed the AC was not working. Went to front desk, let them know we had an issue, a staff member came up to room to see what the issue was. She was very nice but unable to get it working. Eventually we were given another room, much better and bigger,1 king bed and single bed. However the bathroom tiles were awful as well. The water pressure is great and the towels are thick and absorbent."

"Rooms are above a seafood restaurant and even on the top floor everything smelled of fish and the crab tanks from restaurant. The old, plastic, tattered shower curtain was hanging by a thread (3 shower rings left), the beds were horribly uncomfortable, it was super noisy, the patio door wouldn’t slide open because it was off the track, tried to open the blinds and the pull cord came right off… pretty much the worst stay I’ve had in a really long time, and all for a premium price! Do yourself a favor and keep looking!! "
