Cedar Island Beachfront Cottage

Adorable, quaint cottage! The cottage only sleeps 6. It features one master bedroom with a queen mattress, a second bedroom with a full mattress, one full bathroom, an upstairs loft area with a twin day bed and twin trundle bed, and an upstairs half bathroom. The fully equipped kitchen has granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. A Keurig coffee maker is provided. Hickory floors run throughout the home. The screened-in porch offers a full-size hanging swing to look out at the fantastic water views of the Pamlico Sound and North Bay and watch the sunset. The cottage features an outdoor shower and eating area so you can enjoy the peace and quiet the island offers.

Close access to sandy beaches and a public boat ramp is less than 100 yards away. Great spot for fishing, boating, and swimming. Horseback riding is offered at the local campground, Cedar Island Resort. Day trips are easy to Cape Lookout National Seashore, Harkers Island, Beaufort, Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, and Ocracoke. Please check individual websites, if interested, for activities and hours of service. The Cedar Island ferry is a short walk from our Cottage.

There are two small kayaks and one full-size kayak for your use, as well as fishing rods and tackle, a gas grill, and an outdoor eating area.

If you are looking for a place to relax and recharge, without the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. We do have wi-fi but it can be slow and spotty at times. I love offering my home and this beautiful, quiet, remote, and relaxing island for others to enjoy.

Please bring your own beach chairs, beach towels, sunscreen, and insect spray.

No pets or smoking.

This was our third time at this cottage; while Cedar Island is somewhat remote (it's a gorgeous hour-long ride into the main towns), it is a terrific central base for a wide range of day trips. Ocracoke ferry station is at end of street, making for an amazing ride, lunch, beach trip, and walk around the historic village. Tryon Palace is an easy drive on a cloudy day that isn't good for the beach. Cape Lookout is a marvelous trip for shelling and solitude. Beaufort has wonderful restaurants and boat rentals, along with excursion boats. Emerald Isle beaches are excellent. On Cedar Isle itself, there are wild ponies and cows to be seen on the long walkable beach. This is a great location for a couple looking for privacy and a week-long getaway.

Lovely remote cottage

Wonderful lodging for the traveler who wants a quiet and scenic location. Cottage is remote with a scenic drive to reach. Short walk to a quiet wide-open beach. Enjoyed evenings on a lovely large screened in porch. Easy private parking. Interior was comfortable and clean. Outdoor shower was great when returning from beach. Tiny kitchen but has all one needs to cook.

Peaceful Retreat

My husband and I, and our 19 year old son, had a wonderful and peaceful stay at the cottage. If you're looking for relaxation and quiet, this is the place 😊 We spent a day at the sound, which was awesome, and took day trips to Ocracoke and Atlantic Beach. We would definitely visit the "Pumpkin Cottage" again in the future.

Peaceful Bliss

Born and raised in NC, I have never been to this area of our state. It is beautiful - stunning. Not having any true commercialization eliminated the standard tourist noise. The house was lovely. It has a very very small kitchen so plan accordingly. The views were spectacular. Our only regret is not being able to bring our family dog. That amenity becomes a showstopper for us most of the time.

Loved it!

House was exactly as described. Very short walk/drive to the beach. BUG SPRAY or Thermacell is needed if you plan on surviving after dark. The covered porch and swing bed were a great touch.

Quiet, peaceful stay

This property was perfect for a quiet getaway! It was remote, but close to the beach. The beaches were large and great for young kids (no big waves!). The house itself was extremely clean! We loved using the screened in porch (lots of bugs outside, but not on the porch!). We ate at Baybreeze (formerly Sharkey's) a few times and enjoyed it. Owners were very responsive and friendly. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful place for a quiet getaway

We spent a week here and couldn't have asked for a more relaxing time. Views at sunset were absolutely gorgeous. While the location was a little remote we were still close enough to Beaufort for any shopping needs and to do some sightseeing in the area. Also, loved being close to the ferry to Okracoke. Very easy to take a day trip there and back. Everything about the property was clean and updated, and there was everything one could need for cooking. So happy about the property and the stay. Thank you!

Tranquility

What a beautiful cottage. We were seeking a break from the fast pace of life and we surely found it. The property was perfectly kept, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The screened in back porch was our favorite place to watch the sunset over the sound each evening. Beautiful stars at night in the huge, beautiful sky. We would not have changed a thing. Just marvelous.

Amazing view & quiet neighborhood

Super cute little cottage tucked back in enough for privacy. We watched a lightning storm over the ocean from the swinging bed on the porch our first night..... that alone was worth the stay!! Ferry is 2 mins away so going to Ocracoke was stupid simple. Property was super clean, host provided everything they said, and gave easy, simple directions for the linens & trash. Grill worked well, utensils provided. Outdoor shower was warm and refreshing! (We never showered inside we enjoyed it so much 🤣) Nearby beach was empty, we were able to start a small fire by the water our second night. Neighborhood was really quiet (April), we heard a few cars but saw nobody. PERFECT FOR OUR ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND! WILL RETURN! 10/10 RECOMMENDED!

Beautiful Cottage in a Beautiful Setting

This is perhaps the best appointed and equipped cottage we've rented in years. We ate every dinner on the wonderful screened in porched (with hanging bed!) watching the stunning sunsets over West Bay. The beaches along Pamlico Sound are exquisite and almost unpopulated, the birds are amazing, and the community of Cedar Island and the other "Down East" towns are like another world. We've heard there can be serious mosquito problems in the summer, but in late April/early May when we were there there was zero bug problems, and we had sunny days in the 70s for two straight weeks. Luann was always there immediately via email with a solution if we ran into a problem. The one thing everyone should know--this is a "remote" location. The nearest town where you can find a good restaurant or place to by high quality food or wine is Beaufort, about 40 miles away. Not an issue for us since we have been renting cottages in Northern Canada for years. Bring what you need with you and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Great little house!!

Our stay was wonderful! Everything in the house is as pictured, no surprises. It was very comfortable for the two of us. The beds and furniture were comfortable. Some tips that others might find helpful…we had very high winds for a few days and you could feel the house swaying while you’re laying in bed. I learned through a quick google search that this is completely normal for a beach house on stilts. Just a little scary if you’ve never experienced that before! This is an isolated area, not much around nor many people around if you’re here during the week (at least after Labor Day). Perfect if that’s what you’re looking for, a little lonely feeling if you like seeing other humans on your vacation. The house does not have a blender, so no frozen margaritas for us :( But it was very well stocked with everything else we needed. We couldn’t find any directions for the TV, but we think it is all just streaming channels through the internet. The movies would sometimes cut in and out due to weak internet connection, but it was doable. It’s good to take a vacation from television anyway, and if you bring a good book you won’t miss it at all. We thoroughly enjoyed the screened porch with the rocking chairs and swinging bed! Dinner on the porch watching the sunsets (and sometimes the storm clouds) were awesome 💙💙💙 K & J

Quiet Gem

Pumpkin Cottage is a spectacular find. Luann, the owner, is responsive and understanding. The cottage itself has everything you need for a relaxing beach getaway. It's by far the prettiest cottage of its kind around (both inside and outside) and situated in the trees with beautiful beach views. The porch is perhaps the best feature of the house. There is a hanging full bed swing that is irresistible. The walk to the beach is but a couple of minutes. And the beach itself is pretty low traffic, as signs indicate that it's for use by renters and owners only. The waters are exceptionally calm and shallow--great for kids and kayakers. It seemed like a new beach every day, the sand bars shifting with the rain and tide. There are a few jellyfish, so beware! But my daughter was fascinated by them. Cedar Island is remote, and it has one restaurant and one store/gas station, but that's a plus in my book. We brought in all of our groceries for our stay and didn't need to leave except for the occasional daily adventure. In non-COVID times we'd be able to take advantage of more day trips (like the chance to really get to know nearby Beaufort and to take the ferry to the Outer Banks). Thanks, Luann, for sharing your spot with us. I'm sure it's hard to give up to guests in the summer. We'll be back again!

Perfect Getaway

I hesitate to write a review because I don't want others to know about this great place! My wife and I were looking for our first vacation since our two year old was born. Our trip to Mexico was twice cancelled and we needed a COVID-friendly place to disconnect from everything and enjoy each other's company. It's surprisingly hard to find a beach property for two that isn't either an apartment-like condo or a huge, expensive property that sleeps 15. This cottage fit the bill perfectly. It was clean and tastefully decorated, modern and relaxing. The screened porch with hanging bed was one of the best parts and had an exceptional view of Pamlico Sound. You can also see a partial view of the ocean from the living room window. It was an awesome place to watch sunsets and read in the cool breeze. The kitchen is pretty well stocked and we cooked most of our meals. There is one restaurant on the island. We didn't get pizza, but the burger was fine and the seafood sandwiches seemed to use fresh seafood and were pretty good. The beach is less than a five minute walk from the porch and we enjoyed that most days. The "resort" on the island has horseback riding. I did that and it was pretty interesting and evidently, they sometimes see wild horses. Other than what I've described, other reviewers are correct that there isn't much else to do on the island itself. Bring books, games, etc. My wife and I took the auto ferry (5 min walk to the ferry; 2.5 hour trip) to Ocracoke island and spent the night there, and it was a highlight of our trip. It's a nice way to break up the remote nature of Cedar Island. A couple caveats: There's a convenience store that has most of what you could need on the island, but it's probably best to get your groceries at a bigger city before getting to the island. Also, the mosquitos here are not messing around! We thought they would be gone in mid-October, but as soon as we walked through the brush-y backyard, we got swarmed. Bring plenty of bug spray, ideally with plenty of DEET in it. Once you get to the beach or any of the main streets/paths, they didn't seem to be too bad.

Quel lieu paisible!
