Top Caroline and Willis Brown Nature Preserve Hotel Reviews
Hamilton Inn Select Beachfront Mackinaw City
6/10 Okay
"The room smelled pretty bad, could not enjoy the balcony at all. It was covered with flies that are local. They don’t bite but not worth opening door for. Cleaning services was very average didn’t give us more tissue. My son had stained the sheets with fruit and wasn’t changed. Staff wasn’t friendly but helpful when asked questions. Just seems hospitality wasn’t really there."
"Loved being on the beach, opening the window and hearing the waves. Loved having the bathroom separating the 2 beds, so there is some privacy. Having laundry facilities was nice although I did not use them. Hotel offered discounts on the ferries, butterfly experience on Mackinaw Island, dining and other events. There was also a shuttle service to and from the ferry."
"If you decide to save $20 or so, it is not worth it. It was uncomfortable to stay in this hotel(motel). It is outdated with rusty shower, mold in some areas of the bathroom, insufficient light, and no breakfast. The staff was very nice and accommodating though."
"This was the second time staying at this hotel. I'm a bit disappointed. I was on the 3rd floor at the end. No hair dryer, no microwave. Went out for Dinner, brought back left overs didn't realize there wasn't a microwave. Every time the toilet was flushed a whistling noise occurred. Lasted for a few seconds then stopped. At night heard a knock/banging sound from a pipe, thinking maybe it was a shower above us, this lasted a few minutes then stopped. Beach was dirty. Firework show (Saturday Night 10pm) was great, had a great view from balcony. Toilet paper was horrible. The shampoo I don't know what was in it. Some got into my eyes, which burned. So becareful if you have little ones. Since we were at the end of the hall by the utility closet, in the mornings in front of our door were the blue laundry bins some full some empty. Very tight corner. The staff did apologize and did move them quickly so we can get to the elevator or the stairs. Mosquitoes were all over the balcony all over the screen, sitting out on the balcony wasn't a good idea, thankful the fireworks, only lasted 10 minutes. The hotel is in a perfect location. Very first hotel, so walking to the ferry or going into town was a quick walk. Would I stay there again.. maybe!"
"The exterior of the hotel was clean and well kept. The check-in was a little strange. There was a list of names taped to the office door with assigned room numbers and the room key left in the door knob. The room we stayed in was in need of maintenance but clean. There was a missing pane of glass in one of the windows and duct tape in the shower. I wouldn't stay here again."
"Pros: staff were very friendly, they had extra “rollaway” beds (which are harder to find these days), they allow 24 hr access to pool & gym if you’re not being a disturbance, and the lobby is cute and cozy, with games and books available.
Cons: mold in two corners of our bathroom, ants attacked our pizza we had on a table in our room, wifi kept cutting in and out the entire weekend, parking lot is partially flooded, hallway smelled like cigarette smoke, and breakfast was not what I expected - bagels, toast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, and that’s it (there was a pancake machine but it wasn’t working). With the smallest coffee cups I’ve literally ever seen lol. It was fine, but both days we had to go find breakfast that wasn’t just carbs and sugar and felt more substantial.
It’s a hotel. The price was right for us, so we can’t complain too much. We felt safe and could get sleep here, and that works for us."
