A Casa da Chavella is a traditional Galician country house, carefully restored to create a comfortable and peaceful holiday home.
It is set in a small rural hamlet just a few minutes from the beaches, surrounded by nature and well placed for exploring both A Costa da Morte — with its beaches, villages, forests and Atlantic landscapes — and the rest of Galicia.
The house is rented exclusively to one group and has 270 m² arranged over two floors, sleeping up to 10 guests. It has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
It stands on around 4,000 m² of private grounds, for the exclusive use of guests, with a fully fenced 1,000 m² garden, a private swimming pool with a safety fence for children, and a small organic vegetable garden.
The restoration combines traditional Galician features with contemporary, timeless design. Much of the furniture was specially designed for the house and made from reclaimed hardwoods, working with trusted craftspeople and professionals. The aim was to create a comfortable, functional and welcoming home without losing its character.
Although it can comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests, A Casa da Chavella is equally suited to couples, families or groups of friends. Its layout and connection with the outdoors and surrounding landscape make it welcoming whether you are staying as a couple, with family or with friends.
ACCESSIBLE TO GUESTS WITH REDUCED MOBILITY
The spacious layout, functional design and connection with the outdoors make the ground floor and garden accessible to guests with reduced mobility, allowing them to enjoy the house with ease.
LIVING AND DINING ROOM
The heart of the house is its spacious living and dining room, arranged around the fireplace in different areas: a sitting area, a space for reading and games, and the dining area, with a large reclaimed-wood table designed for long meals and lingering at the table.
The living room offers beautiful views over the valley, changing with the light and the seasons. The landscape can also be enjoyed from the kitchen. In winter, the fireplace invites you to stay indoors; in the warmer months, life naturally moves outside to the garden, porches and terrace.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is fully equipped and also designed for those who enjoy cooking during their holidays. The landscape can also be enjoyed from the kitchen.
5 BEDROOMS AND 3 BATHROOMS
The house has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
On the ground floor there are two spacious and comfortable bedrooms, which can be arranged with either a double bed or twin beds, and an accessible bathroom.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms: one with a double bed and access to a sunny terrace of more than 50 m²; another with a double bed and dressing room; and a suite that can be arranged with either a double bed or twin beds and has a spa bath.
PRIVATE GARDEN, POOL AND ORGANIC VEGETABLE GARDEN
Life here also extends outdoors: different places to sit, porches and terraces, trees and flowers, a private swimming pool, an outdoor dining area and a barbecue. The pool has a safety fence.
The garden also includes a small organic vegetable garden, where, depending on the season, you can pick some fruit, vegetables and herbs to use in your cooking.
It is a space for spending time without having to make plans. What makes it special is simply being here: reading in the shade, taking a swim, cooking with local produce, picking whatever is in season from the vegetable garden, eating outdoors, walking through the garden or simply sitting and listening to the birds and watching the changing light over the valley.
And when you feel like walking a little further, there is no need to take the car: quiet paths begin just a few metres from the house, winding through fields and woodland and opening out onto the Galician landscape.
A BASE FOR EXPLORING GALICIA
A Casa da Chavella is in Verdillo, a peaceful rural setting with excellent connections. The motorway is just 5 minutes away, as is Carballo, the main town in the area.
From here, it is easy to explore A Costa da Morte, as well as take day trips to the Rías Altas, Rías Baixas and inland Galicia. A Coruña is around 20 minutes away and Santiago de Compostela around 45 minutes. Pontevedra is less than an hour away and Vigo approximately an hour and a half.
BEACHES AND SURROUNDINGS
Just 12 minutes by car is Razo-Baldaio, one of Spain’s finest wild beaches: almost 6 km of sand, dunes, wetlands and a saltwater lagoon. Following the coast from there, you will find more beaches, small fishing villages and the unspoilt landscapes of A Costa da Morte.
From the house, Malpica and Caión are around 15 minutes away, Ponteceso 20 minutes, Laxe 30 minutes, Fisterra 45 minutes and Muxía around 50 minutes.
And if you enjoy walking, trails begin just a few metres from the house, offering long walks through fields and woodland without having to take the car.
ACTIVITIES AND WALKS
In the surrounding area you can surf, go horse riding, kayak, cycle or explore the beaches, countryside and woodland on foot.
A particularly recommended route is the Ruta dos Pinos do Mar, a coastal trail running parallel to the ocean between Caión and Malpica. Part of the route crosses the dunes and continues along the beach itself, with walks of up to 6 km beside the sea.
Surf lessons and bicycle hire are available at Razo beach.
LIGHTHOUSES, VILLAGES AND A COSTA DA MORTE
The house is well placed for visiting some of the most emblematic lighthouses of A Costa da Morte, including Fisterra, Punta Nariga, Cabo Vilán and O Roncudo, as well as small fishing villages and towns with a strong local character.
LOCAL SERVICES AND EVERYDAY LIFE
Carballo is just 5 minutes away by car and offers everything you need for everyday life: a thermal spa, medical centre, hypermarkets, supermarkets, local shops, restaurants, tapas bars, swimming pools, a shopping centre with shops and cinemas, padel courts and a golf course a few kilometres away.
If you want to eat out, there are good options close to the house, from family-run restaurants to Michelin-starred dining. In Verdillo, Carballo and Razo beach, you can also order food to take away.
Every Thursday, and on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, a local market is held in Carballo’s town hall square, with fresh local produce and products from nearby producers.
