The best area to stay in Caneja is the Old Town, particularly around the Plaza Mayor and Calle Mayor.

This historic core of Caneja is where you'll find much of its character. It's very walkable and features traditional Spanish architecture, with many local shops, tapas bars, and restaurants concentrated around the central square and its connecting streets. The Plaza Mayor itself is a beautiful, arcaded square, great for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening drink.

Couples often find this area ideal for a romantic and culturally rich trip. You're within easy strolling distance of historical landmarks like the Church of San Juan and the Caneja Castle ruins, and the evenings offer plenty of opportunities for intimate meals and drinks in atmospheric settings.

For those looking for a slightly quieter experience but still with good access to the Old Town, the area just south of Calle Mayor, closer to the Segura River, offers a nice balance.

The best time to visit Caneja, Murcia, Spain, is generally during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months. These periods offer pleasant weather, avoiding the extreme heat of summer and the cooler, sometimes wetter, winter months.

During spring, you'll find temperatures that are comfortably warm, typically ranging from 20°C to 28°C. This is ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty, such as the Sierra de la Pila Regional Park, without the intensity of the summer sun. The countryside is also at its most verdant, making it a lovely time for hiking or enjoying outdoor activities. Couples looking for a relaxed escape will appreciate the comfortable climate for leisurely strolls through the historic parts of Murcia city or along the coast.

Autumn brings similarly agreeable temperatures, usually between 20°C and 25°C, and the sea remains warm enough for swimming until late October. This season often sees fewer crowds than the peak summer months, providing a more tranquil experience. It's an excellent time for those interested in local culture and gastronomy, as many vineyards are active with the grape harvest, and local festivals celebrate the bounty of the season.
