Located in the centre of Cancun, Acuario Interactivo is a great spot to explore the marine life from this part of the world and beyond. With interactive exhibits throughout, it’s an engaging place offering plenty of fun for the whole family.
Start your visit by exploring the aquarium’s 13 different exhibition tanks, in which you’ll see rays, eels and clownfish among the species living in their replicated natural environments. The tanks hold as much as 106 cubic metres of water, making the aquarium a vast and teeming place. You’ll see fish from the nearby coral reef like piranhas and scorpion fish, as well as an array of creatures from more distant shores.
Then check out the contact area where you will have the chance to get close to the animals in a controlled environment. Feed the turtles, stroke the giant manta rays, and even kiss the sea lions! There is so much fun to be had here, and staff are always on hand to answer any questions you may have, making it a great educational venue too.
The aquarium’s shark enclosure is perhaps its prime exhibit. Here you can even get into the water with the tiger sharks and bull sharks. You’ll have to bring your own swimming gear, but snorkels and masks are provided. When you’ve dried off after your shark experience, take a trip to the dolphin lagoon where you can see a daily dolphin show. There’s also an opportunity to swim with these magnificent creatures whilst learning about them and how they live in the wild.
The Interactive Aquarium is situated within the hotel precinct and is within walking distance of the city’s major hotels and resorts. It is easy to reach by bus and taxi, and paid parking is available for drivers throughout the hotel precinct. Open every day, the aquarium charges a small entry fee.
