About this property

Quiet with Views - Pet Friendly - late booking special

  • This is a unique spot nestled in the oaks and pines of the Camden Hills where the Megunticook Lake spills into the Megunticook River, with the Camden Hills beyond.

This 2 bedroom/1 bath private unit in a tastefully renovated Cape Cod (duplex) faces south with views of the upper river basin and the Camden Hills. Loons call throughout the summer and eagles are occasionally spotted fishing from atop the pines. This is a great rental for a relaxing get-away or as a home base for day trips to Acadia, coastal drives, kayak outings on the river or lake, or day hikes in the Camden Hills State park.

We live (quietly) in the other unit next door, and our house is about 3 miles from downtown Camden's harbor shops and restaurants. Rockport is just a few minutes away, and Rockland’s museums, shops and places to eat are an easy 15 minute drive (we’ll tell you the back roads to avoid Route 1.) Fall rentals feature close proximity to The Camden Hills State Park for hiking and 'leaf peeping'.

The 2 bedrooms feature a flexible set-up that can comfortably accommodate four, but can stretch to six with advance planning and available air mattresses. The extra large master bedroom (25' X 12') features a king bed (or two twins) with adjoining seating area, or it can be converted to large dorm-style room arranged with two twins and a single or double air mattress. A second bedroom features a queen bed with desk and seating. There is also a well-drained lawn if the kids want to sleep in their tent.

Bedrooms each have a multi-speed ceiling fan, and the largest has an in-window air conditioner, although midcoast Maine generally does not need it with famously temperate days and cool nights.

The unit has a large full bathroom with dual sinks, a whirlpool tub and separate walk-in tiled shower. The washer/dryer is there, or if you prefer, a sunlit clothes line in the back yard.

The living area next to the cook’s kitchen features a comfortable couch and chairs, with a large bright bay window with views of the outdoors,. We provide wireless internet and Roku cable as well as Amazon Prime and Pandora. Outside is a small deck, and a stone patio with seating. There is a gas bbq for your use.

This property is just a short walk to Hodson Park, a favorite fishing spot where Megunticook Lake spills into the Megunticook River. It is a short drive to Barrett's Cove swimming beach (Megunticook Lake) off Beaucaire Road, and in the other direction 1/4 mile walk or drive to the Megunticook boat launch.

The property is provided with fresh linens and towels, and the kitchen is stocked with basic provisions like salt, flour, sugar and oil. Please feel free to request a stocked frig option with a selection from fresh local markets. Laundry is onsite, or an in-town drop-off service is available.

We look forward to answering any of your questions, and for you to have a private and pleasant vacation in our home on the beautiful Midcoast of Maine. We look forward to your stay, and please email if we can help you navigate the booking process. Thank you.

Delightful home. Conveniently located to many attractions and activities in and around Camden.

Enchanting home with an amazing library and wonderful artwork. It had everything we needed. Two couples with two kids each and we had plenty of room. Close to the lake, beach, hiking and biking trails. We would love to come back and the host was incredibly gracious and accommodating.

Lovely stay!

We had a great week at this property. The homeowners do live in a separate part of the house, as stated in the description, but we did not find their presence to be intrusive or problematic in any way. Paul was lovely and greeted us at the door when we arrived, and explained all the amenities of the property. It was a hot week and the AC unit upstairs was a godsend! It was a lovely stay and we would recommend it for adults and small families alike.

Nice owner but dirty house

Paul, the owner was just great. He was responsive to our needs. The back patio door would not lock and he came and fixed it. We needed the house cleaned in the middle of the two weeks and he arranged for a maid. That said, we did not enjoy our stay because the house was really dirty. The grounds have been neglected and the "herb garden" overrun with weeds. There were cobwebs everywhere, Daddy Long legs in every room, the pillows smelled, the furniture was old and in bad repair, the kitchen sink not only did not have a garbage disposal, it was so old that the wire screen on the drain was tiny and constantly clogged. We put sheets over the couch before we would sit on it as it smelled and was dusty and dirty. The floor plan left a lot to be desired. There was only one bath upstairs for 4 women to share so 2 had to go downstairs to the other one. The bedrooms were not separate, you had to walk thru one to get to the other. There was one painting that gave us all the creeps and it was right over where we played bridge every night. It gave me nightmares the first night and I had to sit with my back to it for the rest of the two weeks. It should not be in a house where children are staying. Right around the corner, on the beautiful lake, which you could not see from the house, were houses that rented in the summer. We wish we would have known about those as they had spectacular views of the lake and were clean and nice. If going to this area again I would rent one of those! There is hope for this place but it needs a huge overhaul. Get the exterminator out there and kill the spiders, restore the yard to its former glory, have the furniture repaired and cleaned. Put in a new kitchen sink that allows for waste disposal and get rid of that awful painting.

Peaceful Camden getaway

Located in quiet area with quick access to civilization. We biked adjacent roads and kayaked in both the lake and river. We were group of six and found house suited our needs. Large desk was perfect for puzzles! Ceiling fans upstairs kept the rooms very comfortable for sleeping. Kitchen is well stocked with cookware. Many books to browse & nice artwork. If you have to work there’s a nice space upstairs with a view of the river. The driveway demands your attention- there are some large rocks that you don’t want to back into. The town of Camden is a five minute drive and major grocery store just a little further.

Great place for a winter stay

We were in town for the Camden Tobaggan festival with a group of five, and this was the perfect house and location. Very comfortable radiant floor heat and a nice woodstove made it a warm and welcome place to come back to after a day in the snow. It is beautifilly furnished, with nice comfortable beds, and a great bathroom upstairs with a walk-in shower and a jacuzzi bath. We were all very pleased with our stay, thanks.

Beautiful and comfortable extended stay

This is a very nicely furnished home that was perfect for our needs - plenty of room for guests and kids, but also cozy for just a couple. The owner is attentive without being intruding, and booking was very direct. Would definitely do this again!

Peace and Beauty

Paul's home is peaceful and beautiful! Nestled in the moist Maine woods with all the comforts of a cosmopolitan home. Books, antiques, and paintings galore decorate this beautifully remodeled home. It is located just below Lake Megunticook. A extremely short walk to the lake or it's outflow river. I hope we are back soon! Thanks Paul!

Classy and cozy

This old colonial house has been lovingly renovated and decorated by the owners--an antiques dealer and painter. Each room has its own personality and offers a feast of interesting books, original paintings, furniture and views. The house is set just above the river on a large and private lot. It's only minutes from Camden so it offers a perfect peaceful country getaway. The owners couldn't be more pleasant and helpful and the house is very clean and well maintained.

Home away from home!

We were delighted to stay here on our way up to Acadia. Truly a home away from home for those who want to get off the beaten path but still be close to Camden and Rockport restaurants and shopping. The house is roomy, comfortable and has a great kitchen. Upstairs the bathroom offers a jacuzzi along with two sinks - so you can brush your teeth at the same time as your partner. It was sooooo nice to soak after a chilly day hiking up Bald Rock Mountain in Camden Hills State Park. If you come definitely check out the park, the views of the coast from the mountain are phenomenal. We loved hanging out on the deck in the back yard, reading books next to the water fall and small fish pond. A short walk down the road is a lake where you can fish and picnic. There is a propane grill to barbecue out doors, which we did two nights instead of driving into Camden to eat, which can be expensive. The owners are artists and collectors and the house is filled with antiques, curios and art work so it's not your typical vacation rental. We loved our stay and will certainly come again.

Beautful house in a perfect town!

Our hosts Richard and Paul made our week in Camden, Maine an amazing and luxurious vacation! They helped us with tips on what to do, where to go, and all the beautiful sites not to be missed, as well as all the great antique stores in a 50 mile radius! These two are professional hosts! their kitchen was well stocked to host a gourmet dinner for 12, and plenty of cereal, coffee, etc. The bathrooms are beautful, and the second floor bathroom is huge, with a soaking jacuzzi tub and double marble sinks. The house is spacious and welcoming, we are looking forward to our next stay!

Perfect getaway!

Quiet and chill. The best stop on our vacation in Maine. We were looking for a place midway enroute to Acadia from Portland and found a gem of a spot—just so happened during the Camden regatta and got a chance to see all of the boats coming in. The best place if you want to be both close to nature and go out to eat—make reservations at Francine's Bistro in Camden. Molyneaux was just far enough away from the town to enjoy the quiet of Maine. A cozy place to come back to after a day of swimming and hiking. Clearly a labor-of-love, the house is well designed and maintained. Our son adored chasing the fish in the lake and hunting for frogs in the garden. And the early morning fishing across the street. Definitely plan on coming back!

Great Area & Great House

This is a very tasteful and comfortable home just a few minutes from downtown Camden and close to the rest of the beautiful midcoast of Maine. The rental process went very smoothly, by simple email and phone - no surprises. Once there, our group of four adults had great meals in Camden Rockport and Rockland, and returned to relax in a comfortable nicely furnished house with great views and peace and quiet. And the dog was welcome (older lab). What's not to like? Definitely Reccomend!

Rural Getaway

This house met most of our needs, definitely tricky for those travelling with little ones though. It sits across the street from lake, but there is a very nice small picnic area just over the bridge that sits facing lake just steps away from the house. It's about 8mins from Camden, and even closer for supplies and tasty food is the Megunticook Market. The driveway was on the steep side but otherwise doable. Nice firepit in backyard which we did use a couple nights.

Camden overlooking Megunticook River

This home grew on us every day we were there:3 weeks! We easily accommodated 3 additional guests for most of that time and enjoyed being outside of Camden yet only 8-10 minutes away. The local Megunticook Market was a great find as were the back ways to reach other towns without combating Camden traffic. The home is nicely furnished with a good kitchen, washer dryer and ceiling fans which were helpful on a couple of muggy days. A great library came in handy on the several rainy days and every morning's walk with the dogs took us down to the river where they and we could swim. All in all a happy experience

RELAXING

I needed a relaxing week away from my regular routine. The calls of the loons, the leaves rustling in the breeze was just the antidote. The house was very clean, well maintained, very comfortable and well designed. It felt like a well cared for home…thanks for sharing it. It was conveniently close to a lot of great restaurants and sights in Camden, Rockport, Rockland and Belfast. Very relaxing. I enjoyed my stay thoroughly. Thank you.

Charming house in great area!

We stayed at Molyneaux in August, and it was perfect for our family vacation. The house is well-appointed, with a nice kitchen and very nice baths. The bedrooms are great and have ceiling fans, which were only really necessary one night during our stay in August. Camden is a great town with alot of charm, a great harbor and good restaurants. The house is away from the traffic of Route One, but convenient to get in town, and easy to reach anywhere in the midcoast. We will definitely book again the next time we come to Maine!
