THE SOUL OF THE HOUSE: A HOLIDAY REMINISCENT OF TIMES GONE BY.
The road leading to The Hunter's lodge is narrow and, in places, steep, hemmed in by walls that conceal vegetable gardens and houses, low-slung homes, private grounds.
Beautiful things are not always easy to reach; sometimes, they require a bit of effort to find. But once you have arrived, both your spirit and your heart will open wide.
You will not find yourself on a flat, featureless plain, hemmed in by looming mountains; instead, you will be positioned on equal footing with them—looking them almost straight in the eye. Yet, you are not in an isolated wilderness.
The town of Camaiore—with its shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and pizzerias—lies less than two kilometers from your peaceful retreat, while the nearest restaurant and pizzeria is just 800 meters away.
The expansive garden surrounding the house offers silence and tranquility, far removed from the bustle and chaos of the town center.
Perched halfway up the hillside, the location provides refreshing, restorative views. Here, you can truly breathe.
The old hunter’s house features a large terrace where you can unwind,
take in the panorama, and enjoy breakfast, aperitifs, or dinner al fresco—or simply bask in the sun or gaze at the stars and the thousand tiny lights of the town below and the scattered homes across the surrounding hills. It looks just like a nativity scene. Savor the fragrance of orange blossoms, pine, and cypress.

OUTDOOR AREAS AND THE SWIMMING POOL
The swimming pool (open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. from early May until the end of September—when the water temperature drops below 19°C; it can be made available outside of this period, but this incurs an additional cost not included in the price) awaits you . Dive in, and beyond a refreshing dip, you will be treated to an imposing view of Mount Gabberi—so close, it feels as though you could swim right up to it. The surrounding mountains and woods offer opportunities for magnificent walks in the fresh, open mountain air, leading to breathtaking views of the marble quarries of the Apuan Alps, Lake Massaciuccoli, the sea, and the bustling life down in the plains below.
The swimming pool is open from early May to the end of September, from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM. In July and August, the water temperature reaches 30°C. For those who wish to have it open in October as well, there is an additional charge (in October, the water temperature is usually around 18–19°C).

HISTORY OF AN ANCIENT HUNTING HOUSE (1920s)
As for the house itself—do not expect great luxury; it offers a simple, rustic way of life. Remember, this was once a hunter’s retreat, and in inheriting it, we have kept it just as it was.
In the living room, as in the dining room, old night-fishing lamp still hang to light up convivial gatherings. The staircase handrails are masterfully carved into a dog’s muzzle—a tribute to the loyal, unforgettable companion of the solitary hunter. On the first-floor landing, alongside a big-game trophy from one of his rare African adventures, hang several whaler’s knives.
In the 1920s—a century now long past—the hunter commissioned a well-known architect to modernize and redecorate the house. The architect designed the two lamps found on the stairs, lined the ceeling with reed matting, and created niches in the walls to display prized possessions.
For the dining room, he designed and crafted the table, as well as the decorative elements on the sides of the ceiling’s supporting beams, the niches, and the mantel above the fireplace—which he also designed.
In the living room, he created a stone corner feature, finished with terracotta, into which he set a fireplace.
He also had running water installed in every bedroom, complete with a washbasin, chrome fixtures, and towel racks made of thick, black Murano glass. In the small ground-floor kitchen—compact yet fully equipped for preparing complete meals- large refrigerator with a freezer, a five-burner stove, an oven, a microwave, a kettle, a blender, a toaster, and an assortment of pots and pans (stored both in the kitchen itself and in a cupboard in the adjoining pantry area). High up on the wall to the left as you enter, you can still see the electric bell system that was once connected to each of the four bedrooms; when activated, it would alert the cook—by causing a numbered tab to pop up on a small panel—that her presence was required in a specific room.
It was also during this period that the cast-iron radiators, complete with their black Bakelite knobs, were installed, along with the *marezzato lucchese* (marbled-effect) flooring.

MODERN COMFORTS IN A RUSTIC ATMOSPHERE
The house offers a vaguely colonial atmosphere, featuring ceiling fans (which, due to necessity, have had to be replaced with more modern units), mementos of African adventures, and hot summer nights.
