The best area to stay in Calvao is the village centre, particularly around the main square and the streets leading down to the river.

The village centre is the heart of Calvao, offering a relaxed and authentic Portuguese experience. You'll find traditional houses, often with colourful tiles, and a selection of local eateries and shops. The main square is a natural gathering spot, and from there, it's a short, pleasant walk to the banks of the River Vouga. This area is quite walkable, allowing you to easily explore on foot.

For couples looking for a tranquil escape, the village centre is ideal. You can enjoy strolls along the river, savour local cuisine at a leisurely pace, and appreciate the unhurried rhythm of village life. Many accommodations here offer a truly local feel, great for a peaceful getaway.

For those planning to explore the surrounding Aveiro District, staying in the centre provides convenient access to the main roads.

The best time to visit Calvao is during the shoulder seasons of late spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October).

During these months, you'll find the weather pleasantly warm and sunny, great for exploring the region without the intense heat and larger crowds of the peak summer months. The countryside is lush and green in spring, while autumn brings comfortable temperatures ideal for outdoor activities like hiking or cycling through the vineyards.

For travellers prioritising good weather for outdoor activities and cultural exploration, these periods offer a balanced experience.
