Unfortunately due to COViD amenities that includes bar and restaurant were closed. The resort needs a revamp and upgrade the the buildings. The cleaning of the rooms needs to improve as there was dirt/dust and rubbish under the beds.

The restaurant was not open and we had to go out for lunch.A bit of a nuisance. The Grand Chancellor is a beautiful hotel and our stay has been great.

Great service, great location but a few things detracted from a great stay. Air con was noisy Curtains were stained and dirty Fly screen door was broken Toilet seat was loose Overall ok, but was expecting more

The standard room was smelly, bathroom was aged and didn’t look clean, there was no internet connection in the standard rooms as was promised on the website. I had to ask for a different room to have internet access. I got upgraded but was initially ask to pay $15/daily extra for internet, but this got waved after I explained that Internet was advertised for every room. No toilet brushes in bathroom. No sink to clean coffee dishes. Bathroom sink was completely blocked and needed plumbing. Smoking are right in front of the entrance area doesn’t make a good impression. Location of Hotel was good. Staff was friendly and helpful. Good that room cleaning can be done by order, but the app to this wasn’t working. However, toilet would need cleaning every day since there is no toilet brush provided. Positive that there were 2 pool areas.

It’s quite a good location a few minutes walk to the beach & restaurants with plenty of free parking. The rooms are ok for the price paid just be careful entering the bathroom there is lip there which is a tripping hazard & forget having a bath it’s very small , the bed is extremely comfortable , the pools are lovely you can actually swim in them unlike quite a few hotels up this way that are freezing . The whole property is in need of an upgrade looking a bit tired , but as a base here to travel to other things it’s fine

Just a teeny bit not "Grand"
We booked in last minute on a holiday weekend, right off the bat the receptionist said sweetly, "We have a superior side and a standard side, and you're in the standard side". There must be a way of avoiding telling me I got the cheap room, ha. It was clean, quiet and pretty blaa. There were two semi doubles, one nice and firm and one that sank to the floor. Overall it was damp. On a positive note, the breakfast buffet was a REAL buffet and we couldn't complain, the "superior side" had a nice pool, fluffy towels etc. (as opposed to the threadbare thin ones we were given) I doubt if this will be our first choice again, but again, it was relatively clean and adequate.

The hotel was not running at full capacity. Lunch and dinner was not available. The pool bar was closed. In order to have your room turned down / cleaned you need to book via the internet and in our case, it was not several times. The overall feel of the hotel was quite baron. Staff were sparse. And it was a little bit of let down. No complimentary offers were offered. Free breakfast and perhaps a room upgrade would have been nice, but no effort was really made to accomodate us at all. Would not stay here again.

It was great, we were at the beach, or out and about most of the time so to have this place to come back to sleep in the comfy beds or have a quick swim in the pool was great. We weren't there for the "resort experience" or to laze around the pool and eat hotel food, that's not a holiday to us. A table or desk might have been a good idea in the room though. Otherwise I'd recommend.

A Grand Pool
We had a fabulous 3 days in Palm Cove. Hotel Grand was walking distance, which was great. Our room was spacey compared to others we had stayed in, it had modern decore, we had a view of the rainforest from our patio, and we were often visited by the local kangaroos, albeit from afar. Disappointedly, we found the kitchenware sparse, the dishwasher had not been run through, and there was a couple of dirty cups in the cupboard. Other than that, we took full advantage of the best pool ever and enjoying the quietness of the location. Unfortunately the bar was closed due to COVID, but all in all, we would still come back. Loved the location and friendly staff. The pool is fabulous for kids! Unfortunately room was rundown. Bathroom was full of mould and the hairdryer had been ripped off the wall. It was difficult to get the room serviced. I was put far away from reception and pools near guests that partied each night and smoked so i could not sleep or enjoy fresh air.

Beware of scam: the property has two wings (main area and a motel): of course they would advertise the 'main house' and when you arrive they check you into the 1 star motel which is across the road

Great budget priced hotel in good location
Have stayed previously in this hotel. Staff were very welcoming, the room was larger than expected so very happy. Only downside was there was a very strong musty/damp smell in the room which was quite overpowering. The plugged in liquid air freshener was empty so we did have to go to reception and they provided us with another, however it was lucky we had some essential oils with us as we did need to use these to mask the smell. By the second night the smell was not as bad but it definitely was still there, as if there had been a water leak/damp that had not been addressed. The location is great for the price, only a small walk to the esplanade and eateries. Will definitely stay again however they do really need to address the damp smell issue, as when we were checking in another couple came back and were complaining about the same problem. No good for those with asthma or a breathing condition.
