"Loved the secluded location within walking distance of the southern end of Lake Windmere. The cottage was smart and very clean, and well equipped, but we were stumpted on how to adjust the settings on the upmarket oven (a manual in kitchen drawer would have helped). We found that we had to be vigilant about the step in dark slate floor between bedrooms and kitchen/lounge (we used a bit of white cardboard to visually remind ourselves.) Had a great stay at The Bothy, we highly recommend it "

"We had a very enjoyable stay at Rosebank the place was immaculate. The little touches of fresh flowers , welcome pack for us and our dog was very much appreciated. Even hand wash in both bathrooms and kitchen we usually take our own as none usually provided , plenty of dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid everything thought of . "We recently stayed here and overall had a fantastic experience. The room was newly refurbished with modern furniture, a large TV, and all the amenities you could need for a comfortable stay. The views over Lake Windermere were absolutely stunning and made the trip feel extra special. The food was excellent throughout our stay, with a particularly great breakfast offering plenty of choice and quality ingredients. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. We also made good use of the spa facilities, which were excellent, very clean, and well maintained. There were a few downsides. Due to refurbishment works, guests had to walk through the restaurant in bathrobes to access the spa, which felt a little awkward. The fire alarm also went off at around 11:30pm, causing some disruption. We found the mattress quite firm and not particularly comfortable for our liking. Parking was also challenging, with limited spaces available considering the number of guests, and only one disabled parking space. Despite these issues, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider returning, especially for the beautiful location, excellent food, and superb spa facilities."

"Stayed here on a Saturday night and on first impressions of the reception and bar/dining/ terraced area, it looked as if the hotel had been given a bit of an uplift, the outside was in keeping with the era with the local buildings and ones dating back to 1900s. The pool etc and gym were good and enjoyed them. What wasn’t good was the state of the room, which was in a god awful state of repair, with evidence in insect damaged carpet, lack of painting for a number of years, wood facias all scuffed and chipped, the shower screen having no rubber strip to prevent water dropping onto the floor. The last part caused water to pour onto the bathroom floor and caused us to get extra towels to shower with as we soaked everything up that had leaked out. The furniture and fitting in bathroom were very dated too. I would have asked for a different room but the hotel was fully booked for the night. The bedding and cleanliness of the room was ok and the only reason we stayed there. I would say at £135 for one night with no breakfast, was grossly overpriced, by aporox £70, given the appalling state of the room. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel to anyone, especially at its grossly inflated price and would only consider going back if the whole interior of every room was upgraded. The interior made a Travelodge room look like a palace. Bitterly disappointed to say the least! 0 ⭐️ for bedroom and 3⭐️ for everything else!"

Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

"If your travelling with kids and want to use the pool be aware of the opening times! Check in is 1600, pool time for kids closes at 1700. Check out is 1100 and kids opening time is 1000. Really poor if you are here for the one night and were planning on using it. Car park is £25 to use however we saw multiple of the local businesses punching in the code and parking their cars. The council car park across from Beatrix Potter was £11 for over night parking. Breakfast has a limit option on the cooked front and the continental was pretty much empty by 0900, toast in a basket is three bits of toast cut up and it came cold. Premier Inn breakfasts and service majorly trumped this. Hotel really does need a revamp and brought up to modern times, i guess the "Old" in the name lets you get away with it. Disappointing stay and value for money only felt on the location point albeit park your car 5 mins walk away."

"Perfect place to stay. The hotel is great, staff very friendly and accommodating, breakfast was brilliant. The spa is a very nice added bonus. Pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi - just what you need after a long hike! Also has EV charging - £30 flat rate. I would 100% stay here again."
