"This is an amazing historic building with great character. The hotel was located walking distance to Old Market. And the staff was very eager to help and friendly. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. We ate dinner at the restaurant and our meals were delicious and service was very good. The only downside was our hotel room was dirty (dusty & signs of mold in the shower). The in-room coffee pot was stinky and needed to be decalcified. And the outdoor plaza area had garbage where a guest obviously didn’t pick up after themselves. When we booked this hotel we it stated that they had a shuttle, but they did not. "
"Room 216 was NASTY and GROSS . The carpet has a lot of stains, spots and dirt smeared. The a/c unit barely worked. It was on 60° and was barely cooling. The a/c filter was in the floor and when it was running, the condescension was dripping back into the room instead of dripping outside. The phone in the room did not work. Calling the front desk was not possible. The frig was dirty inside. Looked the the staff just did a quick swipe. The freezer had so much frost in it that there was no way of putting anything in it at all.
There was some grease up about the curtain on the wall. How it got there, no idea.
I took pictures of the room, the lights, the walls . I called Expedia about seeing about canceling my stay. Expedia checked into it for me and unfortunately I was not able to cancel. But I was told to go to the front desk to request a different room.
The staff was of India desent and was somewhat hard to understand. They talk softly and when it's hard to you have to ask them to repeat what they're saying.
We were able to get a different room. At least the carpet was a little cleaner than the last room. The grounds outside hadn't been cleaned for quite some time.
Did no laundry. Not sure I even wanted to try.
When walking through the 2nd floor hall. It wreaked of Marijuana and smelled wierd.
Breakfast was very cheap. Not much of anything to eat. But that's what you pay for, Right.
I will never stay at the Western Inn at 1842 Madison Avenue, Council Bluffs, IA. USA"
"There were holes in the wall plugged with grocery bags. There wasn't a phone. No box spring, just a mattress and metal frame. Bathroom was disgusting. No hand towels or washclothes. Just 2 bath towels. 1 bar of soap for 2 sinks and a shower.
Also weirdly 3 outlets by a mirror."
"Pictures on website do not reflect the actual conditions of the hotel. This area is infiltrated with people who enjoy recreational drug use and smoking. It is in a very central location with all stores and freeways nearby. Room was NOT up to my expectations however, the bed was comfortable and sheets and linens were clean. Continental breakfast is coffee and carbs. Absolutely ZERO fruit or protein. Staff was friendly. "
