DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa
8/10 Good
"Had a great overnight stay. The smallest rooms ("Cozy Double") are still a good size, and with spa access from 7am - 9pm, great value. Friendly staff, clean room with lots of sun and a big bathroom with large walk-in shower, wonderful spa facilties, and very close to the town centre.
Just a few snagging points to mention.
* Car parking. I'm sure this has rocketed since we last visited in December. It costs £18 per day to park in the hotel car park - as a hotel guest! Sure, it might be more expensive in the town centre, but I am not a shopper - I am staying at the hotel. If you are coming by car, you'll need to factor in this significant and disproportionate cost.
* Half of the channels on the TV didn't work.
* Check-out time is 11am, and the key card will stop working at 11:01am. It costs £30/hour you stay over this. Fair enough perhaps, but bear it in mind if you lose track of time in the spa :)
Great hotel. But don't forget to add £18/day to your costs!"
"Arrived late and the night staff were really accommodating and helpful. The room was hard to find, when I went in it was cold. Once I found the air con/heater. All was good. I was kept awake by noises from both sides of the room until around 2. But I got a decent amount of sleep after that. In the morning I got up, showered (the shower gel was facing the wall which made it hard to dispense) and went for breakfast. I only had a football shirt and a jumper on me, so wore the shirt to breakfast. The young girl in the restaurant was really helpful, seated me and showed the breakfast to me. Then an older lady who seemed to be in charge came in. She asked everyone if they were ok, ignored me, gave me dirty looks and made backhanded comments about my clothes. To say I was embarrassed was an understatement. All the other tables were groups of women or couples. Whom she was lovely to. I was completely shocked by her behaviour. She cleared the plates around me and left mine. It was awful. I’m staying again soon, I will make sure I dress “appropriately” "
"Room was clean and adequate for 1 night stay. Bed comfortable and large even though expecting only a double. Pillows extremely firm as over filled - would have been nice to have 1 firm and 1 soft.
Bathroom clean; however shower cubicle extremely small. I m glad we are not of a large size. The grouting needed a good clean.
An impressive building with some lovely areas; however the old rugs on the floor are extremely tired- looking! A rather tired look throughout the hotel. Staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful."
"Nice hotel but very basic and uninspiring decor, room was comfortable but plain and like a hospital room. The room was supposed to be premium but was really anything but. I was there for 2 days and the bottled water wasn't replaced when used although the biscuits were? Staff were very friendly and helpful however. Food was limited, not much choice, but the hotel is only a short walk to the town centre where there is a decent choice of restaurants.."
