Back in the late 18th century, an enormously wealthy lighthouse builder built the Cilwendeg Estate, which includes a huge mansion house, now privately owned, and he also restored the long neglected medieval chapel. His nephew inherited the estate and built the most remarkable garden building in Wales, The Shell House, in his uncle’s honour. You will be amazed by this extraordinary Gothic sight in a woodland retreat, the walls are a profusion of seashells and coloured glass fragments! The Shell House and chapel are open to visitors on a Thursday from April to September. There are footpaths through the estate, which still has a working farm, and at the end of a lovely walk they will bring you out at the nearby pub in Newchapel, perfect! The name of the village of Boncath, where you will find the village shop and post office, comes from the Welsh name for buzzard, and you will see plenty around, along with red kites and lots of other wildlife. Beach 9 miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub 200 yards, restaurant 2 miles.

During your final night's stay the owners require access to clean the hot tub and you are therefore kindly asked to vacate the hot tub by 7pm October - March and by 8pm April - September.

The property, the location and amenities were all perfect. Comfortable beds, plenty of space for a family of 4. Cosy and warm and log fire a nice addition as the heating is on a timer for when the temp does drop.
However, a few things we were not happy with.
- Check in time actually 5pm not 4pm as advertised on VRBO which is really late in our opinion.
- Check out time actually 9am not 10am as advertised on VRBO which is really early especially as the guest is required to have a family of four shower, get ready, undress the bed, put towels in the washing machine among other things making the whole checking out process quite rushed.
- cleanliness was not brilliant, cobwebs everywhere on the ceiling, bathroom wasnt as clean a hoped, we had to buy a toilet brush (you're welcome).
I would stay here again though. As we went to the local pub which was a highlight. Wonderfully polite landlady and locals.
