About this property

1-Bedroom Off Grid Cabin on Remote Island Across from Acadia National Park

  • Escape the hustle and crowds of Mount Desert Island on the private and remote Gotts Island. Located just across from the famous Bass Harbor Head Light House, Gotts Island is completely off grid. Relax without cars, stores, people, or worries. Only accessible by private or hired boat this is an island that only a few get a chance to explore. Our 1 bedroom cabin is completely solar powered. Water must be hand pumped from our on site well. Cell service is spotty at our house but we have a well stocked library and plenty of board games and playing cards. The house has a propane stove and oven and running cold water in the kitchen sink. There is no refrigerator but we have a large Yeti hard cooler that keeps groceries cold for about a week. Our toilet is a close by outhouse.

This is an adventure for more experienced campers who are happy to have limited electricity and amenities. There are no stores on Gotts Island so you must bring out everything you need. Likewise there is no trash service so what you bring on you must bring off. Our house is in the middle of the island and is about a 10 minute walk from the dock. When you book your stay I will provide the names and numbers of people you can call to schedule a boat ride out.

We live in the large house close by and if we are out on the island our ducks, geese, and guineas will be roaming the property. Dogs are welcome but they must be leashed while on our property for the safety of our animals. We have a large dog that will also always be leashed or on a line. There are plenty of places around the island to explore and let your dog roam free.

The island features a network of trails, seculded beaches and swimming holes. There is plenty to explore including the neighboring islands which are a short kayak away. It is also the perfect place to relax, escape, and read a book in the hammock.
