Unique Hotel
It is a very special hotel. Very unique you will never stay in such a place with so much history and so well kept. If you’re a bit of a claustrophobic, I would suggest you to take a Palazzo room rather than a cave room.

Like no other place you've stayed before!
What a wonderful and unique experience, if you have a chance to gyro Matera I highly recommend you stay here. The staff was attentive, warm and eager to make our stay special.

Great property and staff. Would suggest having some type of basic sundries and a mirror in bathroom with lights, tough to see when shaving or wife doing hair etc. Breakfast is amazing, location is perfect in the Sassi. Highly recommend!

Rustic cave hotel that is one of a kind. Hotel Room floors are extremely uneven. Room are extremely dark and hard to see. Doors had lots of wholes and not private. Bathrooms need additional sink and better mirrors.

Perfect location.. Extremely friendly staff - who went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great experience. The experience of living in a cave was unique and one of a kind (only downside being no bathroom door in the room while staying with kids). It is in the prime location, with amazing views right outside your front door! I definitely recommend!

Sextantio Le Grotte Della Civita is one of the best hotels I've ever had the pleasure of staying in, truly unique & memorable! The location was perfect for me, on the outer edge of the Sassi with a beautiful view of the Parco della Murgia Materana. Yet a 5 minute hike to the other side of the hill will have you in the heart of Matera. The room was very clean, furnished with rustic original furniture. When lit with the ample candles provided, one can get a very small sense of how people once lived in the Sassi. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was the best I've ever had in a hotel, stocked with delicious local foods and serviced by a kitchen which provided cooked-to-order eggs and amazing cappucino. The Sextantio Group philosophy of the "Albergo Diffuso" is enlightening and admirable. Their goal is to provide unique travel experiences while preserving cultural and historical heritage, and the result for the guests is an unforgettable experience.

This is a very special property that is unlike any other hotel we have stayed before. It’s a repurposed cave with minimal adaptions but enough to deliver a very comfortable hospitality experience. Very welcoming and warm staff. We have already recommended this hotel to friends and families.

Home in Sassi Sextantio Delivers Culture & Comfort
Matera is amazing. This hotel is by far one of the best curated hotels in the world. Sextantio revitalization efforts embody the spirit of the ancient world of cave dwellers combined with the rich culture and hospitality the region values. From the minute you arrive the standard of care is excellent. The location is perfect to explore. Get a local guide or take a cooking class. The views are priceless. The modern elements of design built into the candle lit caves are quite extraordinary. Breakfast service is exceptional, the focaccia is some of the best in the world. Staff is exceptionally hospitable and local.

What can I say about this hotel? All I can say is that I had a once-in-a-lifetime-experience. It was unreal and it cannot be explained how it was. You have to stay to experience. We were lucky to be upgraded to suite and it was just sooooo amazing to stay in that suite. Facility was just amazing and you cannot find any better staff than those guys at the facility I met. I will recommend this place to anyone who will go to Matera. And Matera was unreal, also.

A beautiful hotel with very attentive staff in the very heart of Matera. The staff were able to explain the history of the hotel and the company straight away while showing us round and demonstrated everything we needed to know in our room. The room was everything we could hope for and more.

From the valet service on the way in to welcome refreshments, local friendly & knowledgeable staff, amazing local cuisine for breakfast and our parting is such sweet sorrow departure this experience was magical and stunning. The property is immaculately cared for and staff will attend to your every need. The restored grounds and cave rooms are amazing and hands down one of the best sleeps of our 3 week voyage. The surrounding area is walkable and the views/ setting amazing. they offer a private dining experience and in room massage which we did not utilize. We would not hesitate to go back just for that. Matera has just been awarded European Capital of Culture for 2019 and for good reason. This was easily one of the more unique, magical and true local experiences we had. We could not recommend this hotel more. Don't hesitate to book. If you are a focaccia bread fan their focaccia for breakfast could be hands down the best I've had in the world. Local meats and cheeses amazing as well.

Superb Sextantio
This is our second trip. Sextantio is fantastic. Everything about it is done well, tastefully, and respects it’s surroundings. Fabulous. Even the grapes hanging outside our sassi(cave) smelled intoxicating. The view immediately outside of La Murgia is immense and thought provoking. They upgraded us to an executive suite from a superior - thank you for being so thoughtful. Sextantio is Matera.

This property was so unique and enjoyable. The service was great. One night was definitely the right amount. The room was very neat but ran warm and wasn’t highly comfortable.
