  • This is the headstone of Banner Elk, North Carolina. This elk has been in the town forever, but this past year the elk has been refurbished and installed as the centerpiece of the town. This elk frames Appalachia in the sense of this small town pride in the mountains. In the background you can see the historic elementary school and rolling mountains and once again the North Carolina pride of the state flag surrounding this elk even though about 100ft to the right there is another flagpole with the same flags raised high and proud. This is where every child in this town went to school in this picturesque location but as time rolls on is Appalachia move on too? #appalachianechoes

  • Throughout my childhood I spent so much time at this park. I always remember of thinking of it as the park in the middle of the mountains. What I never noticed as a child was how every single aspect of this park was planned out and put there for a reason. Likewise before studying the photographic image I had never thought about how we construct a image and its affordances and constraints. One thing I really want to point out in this image is that while we have this beautiful park there is a huge ugly pipe in the middle of the photograph. It is part of the necessity of the planning of the park, just like the frame is a necessity of an image. We sometimes want to forget it is there but it is a necessary part of an image and still has meaning. #appalachianechoes

Great house, great views

My family (including a 14 and11 year old) loved this property. The boys played ping pong, pool and darts for hours then switched to the hot tub. The adults enjoyed eating breakfast on the porch with a view. Lots of wild animal viewing (deer, rabbits, turkeys). The beds were comfy and the house was well stocked. The smart TVs were a plus as well. We can’t wait to return!

Excellent property

This property was perfect for our group. The listing is very accurate and accommodated our 10 with room to spare. The view was fantastic. There was a bit of a snag with the check-in however the host was easy to contact and communicate with. He was quick to resolve the issue and made us feel at home. I would certainly recommend this property to others.

Great Location w/ Plenty of Room

This property is in the middle of it all, convenient to both Sugar and Beech Mountain Resorts. The view from the property is excellent. A few notes:1) The hot tub smelled strongly of "mildew" and could use a good cleaning, more regularly2) The master bedroom's bathroom is not behind a door, i.e. the bathroom is wide open to the master bedroom.3) While the description does cover the hill, it is a bit treacherous for anything that's not a lifted 4WD. My sedan 4WD took some hits to the front spoiler because there were frozen balls of ice along the front of the property that looked like rocks. If you have a lower car, I would recommend parking them in the driveway and not up the hill.Overall, this property was great location, had plenty of room, was pretty well cleaned / maintained, and was private from neighbors.

Beautiful home with amazing views

My friends and I had a wonderful time at Christian & Taylor home. The house was nice and clean on the inside and has a wonderful view. The location was also convenient as it was close to both Beech and Sugar Mountain ski resorts. Christian & Taylor were very responsive and check in on us through out the stay to make sure we got everything we need. Highly recommended!

Nice property, poorly maintained, ghosted by host

1. Communication: I didn't receive any messages from the host. It may have been an app problem, but had zero communication from the host. 2. Basement right sink was leaking water into base cabinet. I had to reattach the drain trap, and put the stopper rod back into the down pipe so my guests could use the sink. 3. Upstairs guest bathroom right sink has no hot water. The handle works but the valve must be stuck. 4. No instruction on the TV or sound system. 5. Hot tub was set at 104° when we arrived. My strip test indicated the water quality was poor. No bromine in the floater. 6. Range glass top needs cleaning. 7. TV in guest room on right doesn't work. 8. Basement bedroom with bunk bed is lumpy, guest slept on sofa. 9. Critters digging holes in yard and under side stairs trips the outdoor perimeter lights all night.

Amazing location and view

Check in process was simple. The property owner Christian was easy to reach out to with any questions. The instructions provided before checkin and checkout were accurate. Location of the property is excellent with great views from the patio and 3-5 mins drive to the Banner Elk downtown, 30 mins drive to Boone. Rooms were spacious and kitchen was well equipped with essential tools. The only issue we had was cleanliness. The patio and the patio furniture was not clean. The comforters had to be washed before use. Basement had crickets/bugs.

Worked perfectly for our party of 9 adults and 2 kids

With our larger family holding its annual week-long reunion at a church camp on the other side of Banner Elk, our "branch," who hadn't been all together in 2-3 years (thanks to, you know.....), opted to seek out a property in the BE area where we could stay together, close enough to spend time with our larger family but where we could also have good quality time with our smaller clan. Our party consisted of two senior siblings w/ spouses, their children, and three grandchildren, including a young teen and toddler ... this property worked perfectly for us! Easy access, and excellent views from the mountainside, even for those long familiar with the beauty of this area. We had a very pleasant stay, and I'll add that the owners were quite (and quickly) responsive to a couple unexpected glitches. I'd recommend this property, and would certainly consider returning.
