Bangalow Travel Guide

Tourist Guide

Stroll down 19th-century streets shaded by old-fashioned awnings and palm trees or check out the market when you visit Byron Bay’s country neighbour.

Bangalow is a cosy country town with a restored streetscape that showcases its Old World roots. Stroll through time as you explore the boutique stores and cafés spilling out of the town’s heritage façades. Enjoy Bangalow’s charming al fresco dining under the shade of a traditional veranda and savour gourmet dishes made with local organic ingredients. Peruse specialty stores lining the main street or spend a day exploring the town’s renowned monthly market.

Get an old-fashioned country introduction to Bangalow when you walk down its bustling main street. Gorgeous 19th-century façades greet pedestrians with quaint hand-painted signage and brightly colored awnings stretching overhead, offering shade from the tropical sun. Palm trees sway on street corners and the scent of freshly roasted coffee wafts in the breeze. Pick a table at an outdoor dining area and select from a range of locally made café fare. Try organic Byron Bay coffee brewed by an expert barista and accompanied by dishes made with ingredients grown within miles.

Explore art galleries and intriguing specialty stores to pick up souvenirs and unique keepsakes. On the fourth Sunday every month, Bangalow’s showground comes alive with the Bangalow Market, featuring brightly colored stalls selling regional art, craft and local produce. Take a break from shopping and walk along the edge of Byron Creek to enjoy the cool tranquility under tall trees towering over the parkland.

The town was formerly located on the Pacific Highway. Since the route was diverted locals have delighted in using the wide main street for the Billy Cart Derby each May. Enjoy local entertainment and watch as ramshackle carts careen down the hillside from the corner pub toward the river.

Bangalow is located in New South Wales’ North Coast and is about 20 minutes from Byron Bay by car. The town is a great spot for a daytrip and an exciting addition to a North Coast road trip. Stay overnight in a holiday rental house to enjoy this country town’s enduring charms.

Do not book the Studio room! Upgrade to the Villa or don’t stay here. The Studio rooms are barely bigger than a prison cell and are nowhere near 5 star hotel quality. The property is neat and the staff are so nice. Just don’t book the Studio rooms.

The villa was beautiful. Perfect for our family getaway! The hospitality was exceptional and made us feel so welcome. Yes it was like a self serviced apartment but they still looked after us, anyway they could. Thanks again, can’t wait to go back.
