Very tired and rundown

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Clean it - replace the things that are broken
No upkeep at all on these premises - stayed here 10 years ago and it seems it has not been touched in the meantime. Shower door would not close, fell off the bottom hinge - light fittings broken, tea and coffee not filled, very old and dirty, and no milk. Bed uncomfortable, cheap and nasty mattress. Most things you touched broke - the ironing board didn't stay up, the bed light had a lead that went across the room and had to be turned off at the wall. The room which could have been big enough had stupid walls that served the purpose only of making you feel boxed in. A depressing place to stay.

Just a bit disappointed

Pros: We had quite a pleasant meal on one of the nights.
Cons: See experience above.
Location: Good location
This is classed as a 4 star hotel but I would be inclined to see it as a good 3 star. The rate we paid was just slightly higher than we would normally pay at a good 4+ star in Auckland. This hotel is part of the VR chain and we have been disappointed by this chain before. I had to show ID which, being local, I have not been asked for before and my booking did not indicate that this was necessary so I could have easily come without it. We found the bathroom very, very, very small - you could not get 2 people in the space. There were toiletries but no shower cap and of course I'd not brought one! You could only use the full length mirror properly if you moved a little table.

Just a one-night stay while attending a concert at Spark Arena. Handy location and suited our needs perfectly.

Outdated, no frills

Good location and clean but really needs to be renovated and redecorated--my room was pretty dismal. You can probably do better for your money elsewhere.

Comfortable, Economical, and WOW what a King Bed.

Rupert was very helpful when we arrived early from the USA @ 8 am. He directed us to a comfortable waiting area and we were allowed to check in around 10 am. We fell on the bed and felt relieved to have a safe zone. Valet parking is provided for a fee but is a must as I was told car insurance is not mandatory in NZ. You must get insurance, accidents happen. Whenever we had difficulty with the safe or TV ( For DVDs) someone came straight away. We had a one bedroom apartment and it suited us fine. We certainly didn't go to NZ to stay inside. We were centrally located and had a blast. Thanks Quadrant for making our stay very comfortable.

Well appointed room.

Convenient valet service (for $35), and generally nice rooms. Small bathroom, but fully equipped apartment style room. The restaurant and bar are both small, and had to wait for a table even though we were told it was not necessary to reserve a table upon checking in.

Badly needs maintenance

Pros: The location is terrific, and the staff were equally so - unfailingly polite and cheerful, very obliging and helpful in difficult circumstances.
Cons: The owners need to get real about a maintenance plan - it is not a plan to wait for things to break and then spend over the odds on emergency fixes.
Location: It is on the fringe of the CBD - and the waterfront. I walked everywhere, but the less fit might find it a bit up hill and down dale.
The most memorable thing, unfortunately, was that the hot water system collapsed. I understand it was not just my room but a large portion of the hotel. I am not that fussy, but I was there for work - and going to a conference with strangers and only a cold shower is pretty second hand. When it was supposed to be fixed, I got half a shower with warm water then the hot water came in short bursts which meant that it alternated between fully hot and fully cold water. Quick reactions saved me from being more badly burnt. The bathroom is a dangerous design anyhow - in effect the large glass door of the shower can only open half way because it opens onto a hand basin - disaster waiting to happen with slippery tiles etc. Good luck to anyone who is not skinny - getting in and out of that shower would be a real challenge. All the appliances were dodgy - either didn't work at all, or needed help to work - nobody has checked their operations for a very long time. Sadly, this was not a positive experience, despite the staff - I felt sorry for them as the facilities are letting them down so badly.

Great location, fantastic views, but ...

The staff were extremely welcoming and endeavored to rectify our room issue. There was a sickening stench that came from the bathroom whenever we came back to the room and then hung over us as we stayed. It was reported on each of the days we stayed there - first Housekeeping attempted to rid the room of the smell through extra cleaning. This failed. Then Maintenance attempted. Another failure. None of us used the toilet other than to pee - we went downstairs to the gym. This was to try to improve the smell. Maintenance then attempted with The Last Resort chemical - this was a worse smell covering a disgusting smell. We reported the failure yet again as we booked out. The woman on the desk said if she had known that it would not have worked she would have transferred us to another room. That was never an option offered to us. We were told that if it didn't work the Manager would offer another solution. This room cost us nearly $400 a night - for two couples. As we had paid via Expedia there was no offer of a partial refund or adjustment to the bill.
