Formerly called Woodsmoke, there is now no fireplace. The bach has been renovated with sliding door to the main bedroom, new double glazed windows in the lounge & bedrooms, double glazed sliding door onto a deck on the north side and new heat pump. The interior walls are polyurethaned plywood with a slight white wash. The double bed and fold-out double sofa bed are both new.

Please be aware this is an authentic Arthurs Pass bach - a mountain cabin of about 42sqm. It is recommended for ascetic persons, looking for simple accommodation. The flush toilet is in an annex to the entrance porch. Ideal base for tramping, mountaineering or Coast to Coast race training. Short 950m walk to cafes and Visitor Centre.

Note that there is a railway through the village and coal trains arrive then pass through most nights.

Amazing views and lovely place

We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of sunlight this place gets considering it's in Arthurs pass. Lovely place with a good heatpump. Dave was very responsive to questions we had about our stay.

An awesome place to stay in! Right in the centre of Arthur’s Pass! We loved seeing the trains come through the station from our window too! More than happy with everything!

Great basic accommodation in Arthur’s Pass

The property is basic, as described, but all the essentials (shower, kitchen and heating) work well. It was perfect as a base for doing a number of the hikes around the Arthur’s Pass area.

Perfect location for tramps in Arthur’s pass

Only downside is the trains - we had a rough night - felt like they were right below us all night - Otherwise great spot

Train Spotters Delight

We visited in spring, despite some cold evenings we found the Bach very comfortable and cosy. The view is brilliant overlooking the station and down over the village. Nearby are plenty of walks from a heritage trail around the village to more strenuous ones.a couple of nice places to eat but close late afternoon. If you want something very different from hotels and motels you won’t be disappointed by staying here

Lovely view and position above Arthurs Pass village. The interior is very nice and comfortable. The deck is a nice spot. (Toilet room perfectly adequate. Obviously a work in progress. Just re the toilet room you could just fix up the toilet room a little bit and the front door step that leads to the toilet room).

Our stay at the bach

The bach was nice and tidy. It was simple but good. A classic feel to it. Nice and handy to the village. The double glazing reduces the noise from the nearby railway but you will hear it a bit. However not bad. Lots of good books to read. Close to the bush where there are lots of lovely birds. A compact bach but very good.

Cute and Cozy

This bach reminded me of the baches i stayed in as a kid. Back to basics but with some luxuries such as a heat pump and well equiped kitchen. Previous guests were late leaving and didnt do the best job at cleaning but dont hold this against the owners. It didnt take long to sort out a few issues. Would happily stay here again...picture perfect views and my little one loved watching the trains.

silence and vista in Arthur’s Pass

Arriving, we were daunting by the entrance, which at best could be called quaint (together with the loo). The steps are potentially dangerous especially for older people (us) - my companion had a nasty fall coming in after a toilet visit. We assume that the next stage of thorough renovations will attend to this. Once inside, however, the place was light, clean and warm, and we were happy to be there. Just looking out at the mountains was wonderful! Thatnk you.
