Loch Melfort Oyster Leases
Asknish Bay. The view of Asknish Bay from Loch Melfort Hotel. The nearest islet is Eilean Creagach, and the low-lying land beyond is the island of Shuna. Beyond Shuna is the grey outline of Scarba, and Jura is faintly visible in the distance at left. Amazingly, 1272932 was taken only a few minutes later, such was the changeability of the weather.

Former Arduaine House Although it was built as Arduaine House, this is now the main building of the Loch Melfort Hotel. The extension on the right is the dining room, and the other ground floor windows are the lounges. All have a magnificent sea view.

Arduaine Farm The new roads leading down to the shore from Arduaine Farm are like raw gashes in the green landscape. The one on the left leads to a jetty in use by an inshore fishing boat, and on the right to another jetty which is not in use. The land is being grazed, if that is the correct term, by a small herd of black pigs. Taken from the small steep knoll by the shore.

Arduaine Point. Below the trees is the track to the disused jetty, the continuation of the right-hand branch in 1271638. The extremity of Arduaine Point is beyond the conifer plantation. The land in the distance is the island of Luing.

The location is okay, however the hotel is old and in very bad condition. The room they gave me at first had a huge window in the bathroom and no shades, also the curtain shower did not close properly and there was a ball of hair in the corner of the bathroom floor: nasty, horrible, disgusting, unacceptable. ...
