The Tv and coffee maker were not working, the carpet was dirty, the room was dark, inconvenient stairs for luggage, dated, not to our expectations for $295 a night..

Great value.
Nice reception staff. Rooms a little tired and not the cleanest place but passable and very good value. Great location if you don’t want to stay central as only a short walk away and plently of nice places nearby if hidden away a little. Cafe Toussaint for example is ace!

It was reasonable value for money but not great
The room was a little cramped compared to all the pictures we viewed before booking. It was impossible to regualte the temperature, even with the thermostat on maximum the room never really warmed up. A warning that there's no lift should be more prominent, thank goodness we were only on the first floor. There was very little storage space, a set of drawers would be useful. the location is good, easy to get to lots of restaurants and bars and only a max 30 minute walk to the centre and trams are easily accessible. The reception staff were excellent. Should we come back to Amsterdam we'd look for something a bit more upmarket.

The property is in reasonable condition for an old Dutch hotel. Our room was on the 4th floor, there's no elevator, and the stairs are steep. Location is a few blocks off the typical tourist areas, but it's ab easy walk.

Hotel Iron Horse stay
Even though the weather was rather wet, we did have a great time. Angelita was very friendly and helpful. The mattresses are very comfortable.

Great hotel, amazing location
This was a great hotel for a family with kids looking to explore the museums. Staff was super helpful and the location could not be beat to the museums. The building is older so there are no elevators and the rooms a bit dated in condition, but spacious by European standards.

The staff were excellent. They were very nice and helpful booking us taxis and answering questions. The room was pretty plain esthetically, but the showers was nice and big, great water pressure. The air conditioning in the room worked really well. The beds were very soft. The location of the Iron Horse Hotel is very good, close to many museums etc.

The location was great. On a side street off the main road so not a lot of traffic noise but so easy to catch buses, walk to the Museum quarter and the heart of the city. Cafes and small bars next door, also a supermarket. The room was nice and clean and the bed was soooo comfortable - one of the best I have ever slept in. The big negative was the claustrophobic feel of the basement room. The window didn't open and I was at the end of a corridor so I was very worried about what would happen if a fire broke out in that corridor. I would be trapped. I told the receptionist of my worries and she was very kind and understanding. She couldn't change my room as they were full but she was able to reassure me that the fire alarm system was very good and they had never had a problem. I would advise not to book a basement room due to this. Both receptionists were very helpful about this and also helping me work out directions and which buses to catch. The only other thing was the room did not have a mirror at all. There was one in the bathroom but not one in the bedroom so when I wanted to use my own hairdryer (there is a small one in the bathroom) I had to make do with a phone app mirror. There was plenty of wall space to put one up and it would have been very helpful. Overall a very nice stay. Thank you.

Please DON’T BOOK here!! I don’t have words to describe the level of terrible service we received at this hotel!! I’ve travel extensively all over the world & never experienced anything like this before. We paid in FULL (in advance) for a 4 nights stay here & we arrived to the hotel to find that without any notice, they had completely cancelled our ENTIRE booking - all 4 nights! And refused to refund a dollar of our money! They claimed that because we arrived late, this gave them the right to resell our already paid for rooms to other guests, for all 4 nights! Note: We flew for over 20 hours to get to this hotel (with 2 sick children). We were originally only supposed to be traveling for 8/9 hours, but because of flight cancellations & delays we were delayed in arriving. We are not asking for a refund for the first night as we were late & should pay for that night. The staff was extremely RUDE & completely unhelpful. I waited several weeks before posting this in the hopes that the hotel would do the right thing & refund our $, however they still refuse to refund us. This is criminal & as far as I’m concerned fraudulent. It took us nearly 3 hours to find another place to stay at 3X the room cost. Not to mention the taxi costs we incurred getting to the Iron Horse Hotel & to the new hotel. In addition, we lost an entire day of our trip dealing with all of this!! This should NEVER have happened. It’s wrong on so many levels.

Warm welcome, safe family friendly area
Angelika at Reception gave us a friendly, warm and helpful welcome getting our stay off to a great start. It is clear she enjoys her work and takes pride in helping people. She gave us useful information about public transport, things to see and places to eat. The hotel is in a safe and convenient location and we would be delighted to stay again. Good grocery store and lots of restaurants nearby.

My experience at the Hotel Iron Horse (Amsterdam) wasn't a pleasant one. I had booked a double room for two nights, however , upon entering my room, I noticed there were two single beds that included a partition in the middle , so they couldn't be manoeuvred to create the double bed feel that I had paid for. The second major concern was the shower. The shower head had little to no pressure. I reported this issue to reception on Thursday afternoon and this issue wasn't fixed till the next day (mid morning). All in all for the price I paid and for the level of service I received for the room , I am very disappointed. Having to wait around for a plumber to fix the amenities on Friday morning is not acceptable when you are paying £200 a night.

The most important thing: cleanliness 10/10. Then comfortable beds, clean sheets. Bathroom is spacious. Establishment is not old. Bike rentals there are pricey but didn’t rent there. Coffee machine wasn’t working nor the safe but that wasn’t a big issue for us. Supermarket 20 feet away. Walkable Near the museum area and Hermes store. Near the tram stations. 24 hour front desk.
