"My wife and I went to Ambleside for 3 days. We would normally never stay in a Guest House (prefer a pub/hotel) but opted for Rothay Garth. We were pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed our stay and the whole breakfast situation was great.Full English on order, plus extra options and friendly, helpful staff. We selected the cosy room as we were on a budget. It was totally adequate, but next time we go, we'll book a larger room."

"All was great, except we thought we had paid for an upgraded room. While it did have a balcony, it overlooked the parking lot rather than the village, with a tight configuration at the window. One staff member was particularly helpful, giving us great advice on hikes."

"Breakfast was delightful each morning! Also, our family appreciated the lovely sunroom, the helpful staff, the convenience to the village of Grasmere and countless footpaths, the treats put out each afternoon… we plan to return to the District and will stay at Victorian House!"

"Our room was excellent very quiet with lovely comfortable bed, nice bed linen, towels and plenty of tea&coffee etc. Breakfast was delicious. We ate evening meals at the hotel which were homemade and great quality and reasonable price. New owners have taken over hotel just over 2 mths ago and we found them to be very friendly, welcoming and hard working. They're improving the hotel with new decor and have great attention to detail so I'm sure once finished it will be amazing. It's location is great with some fantastic walks and bus on your doorstep. We hope to return next time we are in the Lakes and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel."

"Our room in the block across from the main inn was really good, clean and comfortable. It was very quiet and the breakfast was excellent."

"Heated mirror has exposed electrical connections with brown insulation tape covering it, not correct IP rating for a sink/ bathroom. Extractor fan going incorrect way flowing dust into bathroom. White carpet not very white anymore (minor) Walking distance to alot of good stuff nearby."

"Bathrooms need regrouting and thorough cleaning. Also spa has broken tiles in the floor. The grounds around the back of Hotel need a good cleaning. Not a 4 star hotel. Also you have to pay for parking if you don’t book direct with hotel"
