Enjoy an oasis in your South Island itinerary and make yourselves at home in our home. Kaihanu Lodge is a 3-room suite on the first floor of our home 5 minutes from Central Otago wineries, the Rail Trail, Matangi Station MTB, historic Clyde, and Alexandra.
Your comfort is our primary goal from the best mattress to the most stunning views and luxury finishes throughout. Sumptuous linens on your super king bed with views of Mount Dunstan, and gourmet breakfasts included.
Designed for couples, Kaihanu Lodge is a place for you to slow down in between hikes, rides, tastings and experiences in Central Otago.
Your 3-room suite comprises a vast bedroom, beautiful bathroom and sumptuous lounge. The suite is accessed via the stairs from our entranceway. Join us whenever you wish or sneak away to your space - make yourselves at home in our home.
Your bedroom has a super king bed and full width bi-fold doors onto your balcony. From your bed or your balcony enjoy the ever-changing views of Mount Dunstan and Leaning Rock. Sumptuous white linens, an abundance of pillows, a quilt for winter nights and the best mattress make for deep slumbers.
Your living room with sofa, smart TV, drinks trolley and hot cuppa facilities, views to Old Woman Range and paddocks is a relaxing space and reading spot to put your feet up, enjoy a welcome drink or a pre-dinner tipple.
Enjoy the rainfall shower in your bathroom, benefit from the light-surround mirror and plentiful drawer space to store your things. Luxury basics await so you don't have to carry your entire toiletry collection with you (at least not on this step of your travels) or if you just fancy trying something new.
There's a European influence to the decor because that's where I'm from and have enjoyed some of the finest homes and hotels. Bringing a slice of that to rural New Zealand is a treat that we hope you'll enjoy too.
Your experience and the finer details of your stay are taken care of too: a selection of tea and coffee plus fresh milk provided daily or whenever you need it, gourmet homemade breakfasts are served in your suite or in the family kitchen (as you choose!).
Picnic, drinks and dinner packages are available to add-on once you know your plans. Entertainment of the digital kind is provided through the Smart TV or the Harmon Kardon Smart Speaker for Bluetooth casting your choice of tunes or simply listening to the radio. Starlink WiFi is included.
When you're ready to explore the Central Lakes District that we're at the heart of you can fill your days or scatter activities amidst downtime. Be as sedate or adventurous as you like: wine tastings and vineyard tours, jetboating and canyon swings, cycle tracks and mountain bike trails, gold mining history tours by boat, hunting and fishing, golf and off-road safaris are all within a 45-minute radius (some, just 5 mins!).
Historic Clyde with its wonderful cafés, boutiques, heritage gold mining trail and river track walks is a 5-minute drive, as is Lake Dunstan. A stomp up to the Alexandra clock is a similar distance in the other direction.
If you'd like to explore Lake Dunstan by bike or by water (or both!) boat/bike charters can be arranged for you. Just ask! Talk to us about the itinerary you're trying to build and we'll offer suggestions or arrange it all for you.
You're an hour from Queenstown Airport. Cromwell, Bannockburn, Ranfurly, Naseby, Tarras and so many more beautiful places to explore are within 25 minutes' drive. Shuttles can be arranged upon request.

Please make use of the tennis court and provided rackets/balls whenever you wish. Kaihanu Lodge is also our family home. We have two almost-teenage boys, a very friendly dog, chickens and a burgeoning vegetable garden.
We came here to create a space that others could enjoy too as part of their discovery of Central Otago - we hope you like it as much as we do.
