Morris Guest House - Bronx Hotels

Morris Guest House

1984 Morris Avenue, Bronx - Map
"Convenient All Around"
This hotel guest house is a step up from a hostel, but if you do not plan on spending much time in your room then this would be a great choice. The rooms were very clean and bigger than I was expecting. The guest house is located in a historic neighborhood right off of the Bronx Expressway, and only a few blocks from two different subway lines. There was a kitchenette on our floor with a full fridge which came in handy. The only downside was that there was only one bathroom on the whole floor, so sometimes you had to wait. Again, I spent most of my time exploring the city, so the Morris Guest House was a great fit for me.

"Close to Everything"
I never stayed in a hostel and I thought I'd give it a try. I was not disappointed. The room was somewhat small but very functional and I never had a problem with the shared facilities. It was conveniently located next to FIT and the subway lines. Lots of restaurants and shops in the area.

The Jane Hotel - New York Hotels

The Jane Hotel

113 Jane St, New York - Map
"Good value, location"
Check in was good We were given a upgrade to a better room at no extra charge. The hotel restaurant was closed for renovations, we were not offered coffee. The day of check out we noticed other visitors were told of bagels and coffee that were available. That could have saved us time and money. We were not familiar with the area and it upset me that we had to wander around to find something outside the hotel. The day of checkout we asked for a taxi to be called, we were told they have their own transportation services for guests and we could arrange for transportation to JFK that afternoon for a flat rate.I was pleases, although the price was higher then a reg street taxi, I was told it included tolls.Much to my dismay at the airport the driver said the fair was 13$ more then quoted. When I asked about the difference he said "oh, that's a cash price" This was not told to us, nor posted in the car.So even thou we had a free upgrade I feel they got their money, plus more.I left feeling somewhat scammed. The staff were polite, with the exception of the young African American gentleman who I felt was slightly condensating.I did not get his name. The hotel was clean, in a safe location and close to subway.Would I stay again? I would but I am wiser now of the pitfalls.Even thou we got screwed with the taxi and breakfast, it still was a good value for New York.

Chelsea Savoy Hotel - New York Hotels

Chelsea Savoy Hotel

204 W 23rd Street, New York - Map
"Decent hotel, helpful staff, in Chelsea"
The hotel looks nondescript from outside - not a separate and distinct building - but once inside it is quite nice; a good lobby and bar area, and a breakfast area on the ground floor. Front desk staff were good, and the room was quite spacious especially for a NYC hotel (and at the price). Free wifi, but temperamental; the breakfast if you add it, is bagels and muffins only, but that was fine - coffee, bagel with cream cheese, starts my day well enough. It can be noisy out on 7th Ave and the hotel is on the corner, so get an upper floor room if possible. I liked the hotel for price, comfort and convenience.
