They were taken from Mali, Sudan and Senegal, and displaced to Morocco centuries ago. The inhabitants brought with them the folkloric aspect of their life as embodied through the Gnawa music. If you have scheduled a full day in Merzouga, youā€™ll attend the show in Khamlia without prior notice, as all the bands are ready to perform for new visitors.
