On average it takes about 7 minutes from departing the Marina until whales are sighted, with over 35000 Humpbacks migrating, binoculars aren't required, there's plenty to see. The cruise goes for approximately 2 hours in the sheltered waters of Flinders Bay, Augusta which is a resting place for the whales whilst on their northern migration. Quite often sighted here is the Southern Right whale - always amazing to see as they were once almost extinct from being hunted back in the whaling days, and due to their gestation period their populations haven't quite recovered as well as the Humpbacks.
