We made an expensive mistake staying here and hope you'll avoid doing the same. Yes, we read the great reviews, but we're very seasoned travelers and want to tell you the truth about this place.
A few major deal-breaker issues with the hotel:
1. You are literally next to a train station with trains coming in at all random hours of the day and night. Good luck having a good night's sleep.
2. Indifferent staff: our check in was horrible - the woman taking our passport seemed totally uninterested in her job. I made a joke about the open champagne bottle behind her and she said she almost forgot to offer a glass to my wife and me, which is standard. Keep in mind we checked in on a Sunday and it was not busy at all.
3. Inexcusably, for a hotel that claims it is the best in a European capital city, they cannot or will not break large Euro bills into small ones (so you can, ironically, tip their staff, pay for taxi rides, etc.). Imagine staying at the Waldorf in NYC, and they said they couldn't break a $100 bill for you into $10 and $20s? Would. Never. Happen. Incredible.
4. You are NOT close to any of Zagreb's amazing cafes, restaurants, etc. Unless you like staring at a water fountain, there are better and cheaper hotels nearer the city's many wonderful plazas.
All in all, this is WAY overpriced for what you get, the rooms are small and outdated, and you are far from where all the action is - the trendy cafes, restaurants, etc. Please save your money and stay elsewhere.
