Good victorian style building in nz's least famous seaside town. Came with electric blankets and heaters and it was a good toasty stay in a cold damp country.

The motel was clean but dated. The room had a double and 3 single beds which was obviously more than we needed so for a full family would have been excellent value for money. The bathroom was very dated with no shower soap or shampoo, just a bar of soap and a flannel. Its part of a back packers hotel.

You're right we don't have a soap/shampoo dispenser in the shower but we do provide wrapped soap and shampoo to all our guests. Also, I would like to clarify that the Backpacker is in a separate building to the Motel. Thanks

Hi Sebastian, thank you for your review. We're disappointed that you found the room smelly, this is not acceptable. We could not find anything wrong with the smell, we thoroughly clean the units in between all guests and we also use a deodoriser to make sure there is a pleasant smell. Still, we take your point, and we will make sure there is no smell at all in all our rooms.

The exterior door to the room was full frosted glass. I didn’t need a night light for my toddler as the light coming through the door was more than enough. No curtain or blinds to cover it either. And when a vehicle drove in, the headlights shone through the frosted door and directly on the head of the bed. Woke me up. Being a medium stature person, the bathroom was super tiny. A bigger person would have a very hard time manoeuvring in the bathroom. And if you want the bathroom lights on, ALL the lights have to be on. One switch for them all. Otherwise the staff was friendly and the place was clean with everything I needed:

Hi Tala, you make a good point about the door being frosted glass but letting light through. We are going to put a dark opaque film on the door to block the outside light. Thank you for your feedback.

Handy walking distance to Conference Centre in Caroline Bay. I was in a unit at the back and not troubled by main road traffic noise. Quite suitable for a 5 day stay. Manager very friendly..

Easy to find on the main road and within walking distance to Caroline Bay. About 5 mins drive to view the blue penquins - check out the season before you go. Across the road from Couplands bakery. A bit dated but spacious.

Some of the decor is quite dated, while other parts of the room we stayed in had been refurbished or updated, such as the carpet, furniture, and parts of the bathroom. There was some building work going on while we were there (not early in the morning, thankfully!) so it might be a work in a progress. A comfortable enough place for a one-night stay.
