I was greeted immediately on arrival Ali by the concierge, who directed me to the front desk. My check in process was quick and hassle-free. My room was located on the top floor and faced Powell Street. I stayed one Saturday night and checked out in the morning. I was able to leave my luggage there while I was in town.
The hotel itself is situated 1 minutes walk to Market Street where most of the shopping is located the convenience itself is a plus. The staff is really fantastic they give guest the feel of home especially for a first time guest of the city their service in my opinion surpass the 5 stars hotel.
As to safety the area in general there are a lot of homeless people asking for money and cigarette you just have to be polite and reject them no need to be mean or aggressive towards them mind you there is also 5 star hotel in the same area but the hotel staff really do their part by not letting non guest to enter the hotel which includes the use of their toilets. I would strongly advice family visitors do not let their children roam about in the nights.
If you need a cab let the front desk know so that they get their regular/trusted cab drivers to service you but as most of the things are nearby the only time you may need the cab is to the airport.
The hotel is just one block from the tram station (Folsom St.) and next to Market (another important street in San Francisco Downtown). You can walk to Chinatown and Union Square. There are lots of restaurants nearby.
"Centrally located in nice old fashioned building"
We stayed for 3 nights in 801 at the top of the hotel. It's right next to Union Square & on the cable car route. Very good staff & our room was good. I think if you stayed on the lower floors it might be a bit noisy but it is the centre of the city! Overall very good.
Loved the hotel, very clean and room with a view.
Stayed a week with no problems. Nice swimming pool.
Not much other than shopping within walking distance, municipal transportation required for the tourist spots but even that was not a problem with Market St just two blocks away. Baseball park within walking distance.
Loved San Francisco and loved the experience.
Room Internet connection was poor, very slow and took a long time to connect.
The area was pretty ghetto but on the flip side it made the hotel feel life our litte safe haven. The staff is nice and the room was okay. The shower was dandy. Don't rely on the breakfast. It's just pastries in plastic wrappers and coffee. If you are a fancy pantsy don't go there. But if you're chill like us and don't need a lot to enjoy yourself well you're good.

We stayed two nights and enjoyed the hotel. Room was very comfortable and clean. Concierge staff were very knowlegable and helpful in suggesting a great restaurant for Cioppino. Best ever experience at the Tadich Grille. We would definitely reccomend this hotel. Read the negative comments of other guests and could not agree at all.
The lobby was clean & nicely decorated. The staff at the desk took care of us right away. Our gear was stored tho it was hours before check-in time. Everyone showed us great courtesy & made us feel secure. The location could not have been better, for dining, dancing & gallery hopping. The day & evening concierges were so helpful, it really made our trip memorable. We will most certainly visit here again.
