The hotel itself is situated 1 minutes walk to Market Street where most of the shopping is located the convenience itself is a plus. The staff is really fantastic they give guest the feel of home especially for a first time guest of the city their service in my opinion surpass the 5 stars hotel.
As to safety the area in general there are a lot of homeless people asking for money and cigarette you just have to be polite and reject them no need to be mean or aggressive towards them mind you there is also 5 star hotel in the same area but the hotel staff really do their part by not letting non guest to enter the hotel which includes the use of their toilets. I would strongly advice family visitors do not let their children roam about in the nights.
If you need a cab let the front desk know so that they get their regular/trusted cab drivers to service you but as most of the things are nearby the only time you may need the cab is to the airport.
Convenient close to Union Square and Market Street. Excellent service and hotel staff and clean comfortable rooms. Budget for $50 valet parking per day, but hotel value made up for it Will stay again my next trip to San Fran.
Lovely hotel and so very convenient to everything near Union Square - great food at the Urban Tavern inside the Hotel - lax when it came to stocking the in room coffee!
Super Shutte at the door for airport transportation was the very best!
Would stay again at this Hotel
I had a fantastic experience at Hotel Nikko. The location is great. The staff is very nice and helpful, and I was even treated to a special Christmas gift that was a very nice surprise. This is now my favorite place to stay in San Francisco and the best experience I have had at a San Francisco hotel.
We got upgraded to a suite on arrival. The hotel rooms are a little dated but they are really clean and the hotel location is just the best ever. The hotel is going to be renovated in 2015 and this will only further improve it. The staff are super friendly
My hsuband and I stayed here, while he had a class, and I did my Xmas shopping ! Great location....about a 5 min walk to Union Square, and all the stores around that area. I loved how the hotel has Jaspers restaurant attached to it......they had the most delish stuffed french toast, I have ever had !! Would stay here again....:)
I think as the other prior patrons have mentioned (see reviews in Trip Advisor/Yelp), there was street noise as our room faced the Ellis street- cable cars, trucks loading/unloading, some couple upstairs was 'at it' and we could hear the bed creaking pretty loudly but other than that the facilities, price point, etc. was just apt for the convenience of downtown. Although to be completely transparent- we'd read the reviews about the street noise, etc. and were offered an interior room which would have been quieter according to the staff member- but it was for an additional cost and we only wanted the room for a night, so we chose to take the street view room. My wife loved the street view and we were tired so the noise did not bother us after some time until we were woken up by this wonderful couple upstairs. :)
TIP: You can park for half the money in the public parking just next door versus their parking of $45/$50 (for oversize cars). I parked in the public parking for the day we came in and almost 3/4th of the next day and paid $34.
