Seminyak was once a small dot on the Balinese shoreline, but significant up-scaling over the years has seen it develop at lightning speed, sprawling outwards to join up with bustling Kuta to the south. It is, however, more laid-back and cultured than its neighbouring districts, boasting high-end restaurants and bars, luxury accommodation and some of the best shopping in Bali. The streets here are known for being quite congested with traffic, so travelling on foot is your best option. It's also the only way to really appreciate what the area has to offer. A simple walk in Seminyak reveals its beautiful villas, which are a very popular accommodation option, and its ornate religious buildings. Petitenget Temple is a great example of traditional local design and is located not too far from the beachfront.Trace your footprints in the sand at quiet Seminyak Beach. The area is popular in the evenings due to its world-renowned sunsets. Sit back at one of the beachfront bars and enjoy a refreshingly cool cocktail as the sun sinks slowly into the sea.Art galleries have become a very popular attraction in Seminyak. Many galleries are dotted all over and house cultural works from throughout South-East Asia. A lot of the art shows clear influences from the Buddhist faith and there is also a lot of emphasis placed on more modern art movements. The art lovers have their galleries and the romantics have their sunsets, but bargain hunters and shopaholics won't be disappointed either. Jalan Laksmana is lined with shops where you can pick up a treat or two for yourself, and don't forget some souvenirs for those back home! The Seminyak Square shopping complex also offers a great selection of designer and home-grown shops but in a more modern setting. After all that shopping why not indulge in some pampering at one of the many high-end spas? Relax with a treatment or two before heading off for some well-deserved dinner. Wind up your long day with some fine dining Jalan Petitenget has a huge selection of fashionable restaurants to suit everyone's tastes.

As first time visitors to Bali we were a little taken back by the dirtiness of it in general and the volume of traffic all the time. We would return, but probably stay in quieter areas, nusa dua maybe next trip. Oh and the heat is insane!
