Santa Eulalia del Rio (Santa Eularia des Riu in Catalan) is Ibiza’s third-largest town. Look out over the clear blue water in the marina and see the reflection of the town’s stacked whitewashed buildings. Experience some of the town’s culture at a number of historical and family attractions. Open year-round are many of the island’s finest restaurants.
Santa Eulalia del Rio is the perfect escape from the busy club scene of the south. Take in the laid-back atmosphere and dive in for a swim at one the town’s immaculate beaches: Playa de Santa Eulalia and Playa des Riu. The town is only a short taxi or scooter ride away from Ibiza Town.
The promenade in the marina is lined with tall palm trees and features an original bridge that was built by the Romans. This town has a rich cultural heritage to discover. Wander through art galleries and history museums. Or, head to the old town hall, sit by the fountain at the plaza and explore the fortified 16th-century church on top of Puig de Missa hill.
Every Wednesday from April to October Club Punta Arabi hosts the Hippy Market. Located on the headland of Punta Arabi at the east end of the bay, the market has been one of the area’s main attractions since the 1970s. Stroll through hundreds of stalls along the paved areas of the club’s grounds and see hand-crafted jewellery, Italian leather goods and traditional regional dance performances.
Santa Eulalia del Rio is easy to reach and is situated 15 kilometres (9 miles) northeast of Ibiza Town and 21 kilometres (13 miles) away from the island’s international airport. Peak season is in the summer months and this is when the town’s bars, promenade and beaches come to life. Visit between the months of November to April to experience the town in a quieter atmosphere.
