Very conveniently located near the beach and shops with ample on site car parking, it’s own bar, table service dining and room had all facilities needed including tv, drinks making facilities and working hot shower. Good selection of drinks at the bar, excellent breakfast, onsite pool but best of all top class service
Dirty stained towel in room (on arrival).
This towel stayed in our room, despite being 'serviced' daily.
The 'full monty' breakfast, is not what I would recommend.

Items occasionally come back from the laundry company having fallen foul of one of their machines and have a stain. All are folded but things such as sheets, duvet covers and pillow slips are unfolded in order to make the beds. But towels are simply hung up so, if there is a stain on the inside, it is not seen by our staff. Like most hotels, our ensuites carry a notice asking guests to avoid the waste of unnecessary laundry by hanging up anything that they are prepared to reuse whilst putting anything they want to be changed in the bath or shower tray. This gentleman obviously has the common sense necessary to understand the system - but equally obviously preferred to leave the offending item hung up so that he could even put quote marks on 'service' as if the staff were derelict in their duty during the three whole days of his stay. And as for "The 'Full Monty' breakfast, is not what I would recommend" we would love to know just one thing - Why? - when our breakfast offering, on the many review platforms that allow marks for individual facets, scores a resounding 9.1 out of 10. But then the overall mark of just 4 awarded against our average of 8 on this site is so far from the norm as to be, well, abnormal. One final thought: the client chose to title his review Ahmmm - surly such a curmudgeonly posting is at least deserving of a full Harrumph!
Oh I would definitely stay here again. Lovely room, lovely breakfast, lovely warm pool and nice friendly people and very near the beach.

Hotel - 2 star service
Overall, the room was ok. The kettle had a disgusting smell and was too old. Rooms do not have a small fridge. The breakfast is not a buffet service with very limited continental style options. The hotel does not have any lunch or dinning facilities. This was surprising for a 4 star hotel. I won't stay again at this place. The Sandown area around the hotel felt a bit dipressing with many dilapidated buildings.

Readers are invited to judge the voracity of this gloomy review against the multitude of positive remarks and an average satisfaction mark of over twice Elvin's miserable 4 out of 10.But to answer and comment on some of his points we feel that the following to be fair:1. The kettle - kettles are emptied between each guest - but in any case, as kettles by their very purpose boil water every time that they are used, how could his kettle have had "a disgusting smell"? And as for being "too old" we cannot understand the comment - distinctly odd! We have however had a quick sniff, as have the current occupants of the room, and nothing could be found.2. Lack of fridge - Hotel rooms do not usually have a fridge. Many up-market and chain hotels do however have mini-bars - but they are not to store clients' own items - they are their to sell overpriced drinks!3. Breakfast - no, we do not use a buffet, we have table service which most of our guests applaud. The main reason for liking a buffet is so that heavy eaters can take as much as they like - but our table service compensates that by our offer of our Jurassic - a doubled up version of our already very full Full Monty - at no extra cost! And on REview Sites that have Itemised marking our Breakfast offering scores the astounding avaerage of over 9 out of 10.Re. 4 and 5 below - Elvin's reservation was received on the 5th July at 10:57. At 11:41, just 44 minutes later he received an email from us which, apart from offering our greatly reduced car ferry pricing, gave a great deal of information including in respect of matters that he now criticises. And we know that he received that email as he then contacted us in respect that it did not mention that he was bringing his dog.4. No Lunch or Dinner - the following wording was in the email - The demand for Evening Dinners has decreased to such an extent that their provision is no longer financially viable. Please note therefore that, with the exceptions of Christmas, Twixmas and the New Year plus any time when the Wight hosts any large group, we now cater only for Breakfast. We have however arranged for our guests to receive a 10% discount (on food only) in 6 restaurants that are within walking distance.5. This was surprising for a 4 Star hotel - again the following wording - The Wight is NOT a 4 Star “HOTEL” – it has a 4 Star “GUEST ACCOMMODATION” rating. Until mid-September 2014 the Wight was in the top 1% of 2 Star hotels in the country but we then asked to be re-graded as “Guest Accommodation” (which sits between “Guest House” and “Hotel”) as we felt that it more accurately described our core business. On re-inspection we were awarded a 4 Star “Guest Accommodation” accreditation. Since then we regret that we have had a handful of guests arrive thinking that they would be staying in a 4 Star Hotel – utterly ridiculous as our terms are lower than many of the Island’s guest houses and the only two 4 Star Hotels on the whole Island charge between 2.5
The staff were helpful and friendly the room was ok for a short stay the bathroom a little small but all was clean and fresh .
The hotel itself could do with little more colour to liven it up

It needs to be pointed out that the room in question was one of our "Budget" range of Small Doubles and Small Twins - after which we have in ascending size (and obviously price) Standard, Superior, Large and even Four Poster Suite and a Two Bedroomed Suite. In respect of the bathroom being "a little small" we entirely agree - but the photgraphs of these rooms shows the smallness of those ensuites and the email that we send out on receipt of such a reservation hammers it home with the wording that their ensuites are "very small bu functional".

Nice hotel
Very nice hotel. Bedroom clean. Mattress on bed not comfortable not firm, shower needs to be up dated.
The hotel only does breakfast. Was ok.
Swimming pool good. Jacuzzi jets need to work properly.

All of our beds are bought as being "medium" in respect of fimness - as such they may not please everybody but they are acceptable to the vast majority of guests - witness how few comments appear in these reviews. We were having problems with the Jacuzzi at the time of Amanda's visit but all seems now to have been sorted.
We stayed a week at the Wight and really enjoyed our holiday. The staff vere very pleasant and helpful and the breakfasts were superb. We bookrd a room described as being small, it was, so we elected to upgrade: this was arranged very quickly and the changeover went very smoothly. We can recommend the Wight most highly.
hotel was just in the right place in sandown all the staff were happy and obliging, room was very good every thing you need and more the wife enjoyed the swimming pool
as no evening meals we were told of a family pub down the very good meals large portions
Staff were very friendly and helpful, room was clean. Bringing the dog was no problem and the swimming pool was great, the heating worked brilliantly. Spacious car park and a fantastic cooked breakfast to finish off the stay
Very nice hotel with onsite parking. The swimming pool was warm and a good length and had good opening times. The games room was fun.
The hotel was dog friendly. All the staff were polite and friendly.
Breakfast had a variety of foods to choose from and was hot and tasty.
There is a bar which you can pay by card or charge to your room.
Lovely friendly relaxing stay. Nothing too much trouble. Would upgrade to a standard room from a small double next time due to en-suite being like a cupboard with the sink being very small. Will definitely go again.
The Owner and staff were very helpful and a happy bunch of people. The whole hotel was very clean including the bedroom and bathroom.
The hotel is only a few minutes from the beach, shops and restaurants which catered for all diets.
There are many attractions within walking distance of the hotel to visit.
Substantial breakfast cooked to order with good vegetarian options. Free parking on site. Walkable to lots of local restaurants with discounts for hotel guests- see in reception area. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable room. Good pool.

The hotel was perfect for what we wanted, but it is a bit tired and needs a revamp. My son loved the swimming pool and games room, so he was happy. Lovely staff at breakfast, table service rather than a buffet. Would stay again as long as the pool remains open (note it was closed Mon to Wed morning for local swimming lessons, but this was not a problem).
The hotel has a great location, just 5 mins walk from the beach or High Street. Everyone at the hotel went to great lengths to be as accommodating as they possibly could. Fran and John should be commended along with their great team. A 5 star experience all round, apart from breakfast which was 7 star! Extremely dog friendly also.
This hotel was a great find. A wee gem to be honest. The staff were great, the amenities exactly as described, free parking and located very close to the town centre. A very rare Hammond X66 organ located within the hotel made my break complete. I am looking forward to a return visit at some point.
