Our second stay at hotel California and it's busier it's changed. The location is awesome, the view, the jungle, the ocean and nature.

Nicely maintained property with nice views. At sunset we were always visited by a toucan! This was a great place to stay. Pool was great to have.

Staff is great.
Josué at check in is great ! Our room had some black mold on the bathroom ceiling. But the hotel was also being repainted so I would think that will be taken care of soon.

Good location, beautiful view, poor breakfast
Mostly I would recommend this hotel. Staff is really helpful, room was relatively clean, mattress okay, good pillows. The fridge inside my room did not work but they a nice coffee machine which was not in the pics. Bathroom was clean and the balcony was lovely. The downside of my room is that you can't really close the doors of the balcony because the bed is blocking the way. You need to be quite strong to move the bed if you don't want to wake with the sunrise at 5 am. Breakfast food was edible, but not tasty. The view from the breakfast area is breathtaking and it was worth the poor feeding. It can be a bit tricky to find the hotel but it is well located if you are using Waze.

Slightly off main road - 2 minutes - giving a quiet and unhurried experience. My room had an ocean view. Avery good breakfast is included. I lucked out and the second night we had about a 30 minute rain in the evening, a perfect way to begin to drift off to sleep.

Pros: Very accessible to Manuel Antonio national park. Good breakfast. Bar/dinner open until 10pm with decent food. Clean pool. You can see iguanas and birds like toucans. Cons: Internet is horrible in the rooms. Room cleanliness.

Medium hotel with nice view
Hotel has a nice view but the beach is very dar away. Room was OK but common areas like the Pool, need some renovation. Pool is small also. The room is confortable and clean and is big. Hotel was OK for us for one night only. Food is good

Breakfast...
There was no one at reception to get breakfast in the morning because we were not placed on a breakfast list and they thought everyone had been served. Asked for the traditional plate, the tortillas, tomatoes and sour cream were not included as stated on the menu, we were later explained that the menus were out of date. Asked for two fried eggs, yolks were burst on both. The next day I specified not to burst the yolk and make sure they were cooked over easy. They later explained that the eggs were "bad quality" (concerning) and this is why the egg yolks had burst and why they weren't able to bring the eggs over easy, clearly the cook did not know how to prepare eggs over easy. Prices for food were overpriced at $13 per plate. There was a leak in the room as well. Beds were comfortable, TV was decent, air conditioning worked, shower had warm water but fluctuated to cold due to some malfunction. Pool was enjoyable and not too crowded for the most part. If I hadn't gotten an Expedia discount for the room I would've been very upset paying full price.

beautiful torture
the room was beautiful. the climb to and from the room, pool, and restaurants was torture. I have severe arthritis and chronic health issues. I stayed in my room most of the time, because I couldnt do the climbing. the service at the restaurant was the worst ever. and the food was just ok. none of the wifi links ever connected to our phones. no matter where we were on the property.

Exceptional
The staff are true professionals and literally go out of their way to make your stay fabulous. They are warm and friendly making you feel genuinely welcomed. We had only booked one week but the staff's outstanding way of being, made us decide to book our second week here as well. Tucked away from the main road's noise & busyness. You can wake up every morning and have a delicious, hot, and free breakfast with a spectacular ocean view. We highly recommend this hotel.

Amazing view
The reception guy who checked us in was lovely and friendly & gave us some good v advice add to where to spend the afternoon. our room was lovely and big with an amazing view over the jungle tip tree sea. The only thing that let it down was the slow service from the bar/kitche and not the best breakfast but good for Costa Rica. One thing to look out for is the turning been onto the main road is on a corner and its hard to see cars coming.

The staff was very friendly but the rooms were average and the beds were not the most comfortable. The air conditioning was on the entire time even before we checked in which was nice given the hot temperatures. The view was a nice to wake up to. The food was sub par.

Nice Hotel
The entrance of the hotel is a little hard to find, and like 500m of the road are made of ballast. The hotel has a very nice view and a cozy pool. At the front desk we were given a complimentary drink and the check in process was very smooth.

We stayed in a beautiful view room and we saw monkeys and birds daily. The pool was being repaired and we were only able to use it on the last day of 5 day stay. I guess it will be fine now. We asked for an extra night free, as we had expected a pool. They gave us half price fir extra day which was still high. Staff were very nice. Would go back. If like to have the pool you should ask if its operating before hand.

Nice and peaceful, but not walking distance
The staff was very friendly, the room was nice for the price, and it was in a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle. Unfortunately, we were hoping for walking distance to the beach, and that was not the case. On a map it looks like you can walk down a steep hill to the beach, however, you also have to walk a ways down a main road without a sidewalk to get to the beach. Really not walking distance and I am not afraid of a long walk. The local shops and night life also require a cab or bus. Neither were a hassle, but if you are looking for walking distance to anything, you either have to brave the road or be down for a trip. Beyond that, it was a nice place. If you are looking for quiet seclusion, it is perfect.

Welcome to the "Hotel California" it's beautiful
The property is located high above both Manuel Antonio and the town of Quepos, easy access to both and we experienced the local culture on both sides and had a blast!!

Very nice rooms
The hotel staff has an amazing customer service, they are really nice and helpful. The rooms are very big and nice. Super clean. Each room is separate from each other, so you feel like in your own place. Breakfast could be better.

Great location with ocean view
The hotel is located off the main road of Manuel Antonio in a quiet spot with a lovely outside sitting lounge, nice pool and great restaurant location overseeing the pool and the ocean. Very friendly staff and good food + happy hour (buy one get one free) every day !!

Would only recommend when rooms are on sale. No shade around pool. Breakfasts good. Had to move from one room to another - air conditioner too small to cool room. Not a place to hang out. Access to hotel was by a rocky, dusty road. Signage almost hidden. Bar and restaurant not always open.

Great location stupendous view!
Beautiful building. Great room. Excellent view of the jungle and ocean. Very reasonable cost. Highly recommend! Only downside is scary treacherous entrance. Poor signage directing you to the hotel. We loved our stay there!

Beautiful view, wonderful owner.
The hotel is a high end three, large enough to have a varied staff but small enough that the owner herself is often present. Meet her if you can, she brings the "California" part in a big way. The hotel is tucked away a few hundred yards off of the main road, which makes a surprisingly big difference in terms of feeling isolated. The whole area is a major tourist zone base for Manuel Antonios National Park and can feel really crowded, which Hotel California escapes entirely. I will definitely stay there again when I'm back this way.

Great location, between Quepos and Manuel Antonio
We loved this hotel! Although there is a little walk up a gravel road from the local bus, it's so worth it! The staff were wonderful, spoke English well, aimed to please, very accommodating to our needs; delightful pool and restaurant/bar poolside. Location was great, food was great, atmosphere and surroundings were wonderful. Visited daily by many birds and some large groups of monkeys traveling through the neighborhood. Would love to go there again!
