We have stayed here a few times and have also tried a few other nearby resorts. We decided that Occidental Nueva Vallarta was the best choice for us. The staff are friendly, the resort is well maintained and the rooms are clean. The only thing I would suggest are having more chairs in the pool area. Many people place towels on the chairs to reserve them and aren't even in the pool area. There are signs that say not to do that but... People still do and the policy is not enforced.

We overall had a pleasant time here. The food was fantastic with the exception of the Italian place. The Tokyo restaurant was fantastic, and we went back twice. I was a little disappointed the property advertises 3 pools but one of them is a small wading pool for children, and the other is for royal level only so you realistically only get one pool. I also wish their was a swim up bar, but it’s also the kids pool so I guess that’s why. Although there is nightly entertainment, there isn’t much to do after 10 pm, or games around. We loved our bartender staff Ramon, Augustine, and Eric. David in the buffet was great too. We did have bad service at checkout time. The hotel staff arranged our pick up in accordance with our flight times. Karen informed us we were allowed to keep our wristband until pickup at 4pm, as long as we vacated our room at 12pm. When we returned at 3:30 to hand in our wristbands she was incredibly rude, speaking to her coworker in Spanish angrily and clearly about us. She then went back on her word and said she told us 2pm - accusing us off not returning as instructed. My partner and I were really disappointed with how she spoke to us, and how we were told two different things. Despite having a great time all week it ended on a sour note. I guess they expected us to sit in the lobby from 12-4pm? After paying for 7 nights, I was surprised they took issue with us spending an extra 3 hours on site, without occupying a room.

We have been here many times over 30 years, the number of employees is down and it could use a refresh. It needs an after hours BBQ and bar open late. The lounge is the only place to go in the evening at the hotel, and it’s boring with the same, saxophone or mariachi band. Needs something else. But the food is good and the facility itself is fine, like I said it needs a little love.

The hotel location is exceptional. The dining choices and quality of dining is excellent. The front desk staff are rude, untrained and unhelpful. A great pity for this property.

We had an excellent time with our friends at this resort. Pool service from Anhel and Jesus was amazing. We also had excellent service at the buffet from Rafael and David. All the food and service was exceptional. Would definitely stay here again.

The location was perfect, you could walk the sandy beach for hours! The hospital and a small mall are almost right across the street as well which was nice, along with the market behind the hospital on tuesdays. The staff were all amazing and so welcoming, rooms were large and kept very clean. The only downside for me personally would be the buffet options, I wish there were more selection without having to reserve the specialty restaurants. Overall a wonderfull place to stay

It was a nice place but the food and offerings left much to be desired. We have food allergies and even though we notified the restaurants ahead of time the allergies were often ignored. This lead to stressful and frustrating dinners having to make sure the allergy was taken seriously. The staff is super friendly and planned some fun stuff daily around the pool, so we still had a great time. Just unfortunate having experienced much better food and accomodations at other resorts in the past.

The staff are amazing. The beach was beautiful and the grounds are beautifully maintained. Lots of food and beverage options. The activity staff were awesome and lots of fun. The one negative...rooms do need some love (although always clean and comfortable) and the pool lounger situation needs to be revisited. Having to get up as early as 7AM to secure pool loungers is not my idea of a vacation.

The beach and overall location of the resort was great! The beach has beautiful sand and fun waves to boogie board on. The pool and bar were average. The pool didn’t appear to be cleaned daily as there was debris on the bottom, and sunscreen residue on the surface. The food was okay but not great. The grounds and public areas were a little dirty. Bird poop, spilled drinks, and other messes weren’t cleaned off the beach chairs. The rooms are a little run down. Our shower leaked and had barely any water pressure. They didn’t provide face clothes and the bath towels were very worn. There was a lot of dust under the bed and around the table base. I would ask the staff encourage people to smoke in designated smoking areas. Often people were smoking pool side or in the lobby. Overall the experience was average to good based on the price point we paid.

We travelled with our 6 month old baby and had a wonderful time here. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating toward us and our baby. Everything was clean and comfortable. We did have to carry our stroller up and down some short flights of stairs, but most parts had ramps. The food selection was very good, although more dairy free dessert options would be great. I also wish they had iced coffee, although there is a Starbucks pretty much right across the street. Service at the restaurants could be quite slow at times, but other times we had amazing, friendly waiters so overall we were very happy. The nightly entertainment was pretty hit or miss, but we loved the circus show and the Mexican fiesta! We would definitely come again!

The pool and restaurant staff are very friendly and efficient. We enjoyed lobby bar and Lizbeth made me an amazing coffee! Buffet had great options but it was hard to get reservations for dinner. We enjoyed Tokyo restaurant and Johnny, Cristina and Samuel were amazing waiters. The front desk staff not very friendly. I suggest they train better for customer relations. Hotel needs to be remodeled but other than that worth staying there again. Easy access to beach and loved nightly entertainment.

Very pretty resort with a nice pool and beach! The Mariachi Grill Restaurant has the best food at the resort. However, one morning at the breakfast buffet we were completely overlooked and never assigned a waiter, so we were unable to get any coffee or tea. Also, we received incorrect information from staff members regarding the time that room service was available, and the check out time. We also received the wrong drinks on several occasions.

Stayed 4 nights. No balconies and windows don't open. Restaurants were booked even though they weren't busy since people staying a week book them all up and the lady was very rude. We got 1 reservation for 10pm and the food was just ok. Sunday is karokee night in the bar which echo's into the lobby and up to all the rooms so don't plan on going to bed before midnight on Sunday. People put their stuff on the pool chairs early in the morning to save spots so there are no chairs available most of the day even though there is nobody on the chairs. I moved their junk off the chairs since they weren't being used. Every 2 minutes somebody on the beach will try to sell you something. I'm glad we rented a car so we could go eat food at good places and see other attractions.

I travel to all inclusive resorts in Mexico four or five times yearly. I paid for the Royal club and they refused to give it to me. I showed them on my receipt from Expedia and they still refused wanted me to pay extra. Passceled me to make reservations at restaurants and treated me poorly. There's an overall feeling from the second you walk in that there's a line of people waiting to complain about their room that they didn't get what they paid for. Overall the resort is fine if they would just give you what you paid for. If you don't pay for the upgrades on site they will refuse

The reason for only 4 stars is that food options are horrible. You feel like you are on a cruise on land. Getting a reservation at any of the other restaurants was impossible. We only got 1 reservation at Tokyo our last night there. The buffet is the only option that doesn’t require a reservation. The food was not so good. There were plenty of options in the buffet, but it’s sad when I can say the salad was the best thing I had. Other than that the resort is beautiful! The staff was amazing and super friendly. It is a ways from PV and a taxi ride will cost you about $30 each way.

We were very happy with our stay. You would have to be an extremely picky eater to not like the food they have to offer. There is a great variety and we enjoyed our meals. The staff was very kind and helpful. The pool and entertainment staff was exceptional especially Milton Gomez and Julio. Anyone coming should meet those two gentlemen as they enhanced our experience.
