Great for adventurous travelers. I wouldn't say it's a great place for younger kids though. Staff is very friendly and will ale care of anything you need. Just be prepared to be bombarded by all of the venders in the market when you come and go. All friendly people though.
The Palace is a quiet, safe grand hotel with beautiful and expansive garden/grounds. It offers a free and fast internet connection and is located near (but not walking distance) to Pt Antonio's best attractions, like the Blue Lagoon. You can walk to a rather well stocked shop and Woody's Care/Bar which has the best burgers and veggie burgers in Jamaica. If you want to go into Pt Antonio for dancing/dining, local taxis run just outside the hotel every few minutes and only cost about $1.50 US. The staff was helpful and friendly. You could not touch a place like this in the US/Europe for the price - especially with the online booking discount. The Palace is a bit past its prime but well worth a visit.
When we first arrived at the hotel the first impressions weren't good based on the driveway and entryway. It was a little run down. The dining area could use a few upgrades as well to give it some wow factor. The room was very clean though and the air con was nice and cold. The grounds are very beautiful and tropical. The staff, Phil and Rico were very laid back but helpful. In the days to come I would really come to appreciate these guys. Phil especially always seemed to be there for us. He's a combination of a lot of good traits, laid back, friendly, hard worker, helpful. Him, Rico and another guy I don't know his name are all excellent chefs. They cook fish and vegetables in such a way that puts an expensive Beverly Hills Restaurant to shame. They also bake bread fresh every day and pizza and I can't imagine them saying no if you have a special request. I caught some very small reef fish which they managed to turn into a culinary masterpiece. Because of the staff this place deserves 5 stars. I've never even done a rating on expedia before but because of how special these guys made our stay I wanted others to know.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Tim Bamboo. We stayed in one of the premium rooms that had a flat TV and wireless access. The size of the room was reasonable if you will be venturing a lot outdoors. It is also comfortable to lounge in if it is a rainy day and you do not mind watching movies on TV or on your laptop/tablet. The staff was nice enough to sprinkle pink and red peddles on our bed when they knew we were on our honeymoon.
"Good restaurant on site. Small pool but great view"
When we first arrived, we noticed the surroundings were very lush and green and had a nice view of the bay. We selected this hotel strictly for location and a decent rate but we didn't realize the number of stairs we would need to maneuver to get to our room and the distance between the reception and the restaurant/pool area. A LOT of walking. Since there was no phone in the room, a couple of times when we needed to call a taxi, we dreaded walking all the way to the front desk and back again.
I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone who has any kind of physical limitations. The front desk does not offer any assistance for luggage or other items you may need to take to your room. Although there is one ramp, it is very steep and you still have a distance to go.
The hotel is awesome. The blue lagoon is awesome. The office staff and beach staff are awesome. The restaurant is a huge disappointment. Make sure you arrange with the office to have a driver take you elsewhere for dinner if you don't have a car. The office is great about this and there is lots of great eating in Port Antonio. I can't imagine how they can leave the restaurant like that - very expensive and very very dull. The food and experience are nowhere close to what you pay. (Breakfast was nice.) You may note that I still gave the hotel a 5 and heartily recommend it. Everything else was that great and you can work around the restaurant easily.
