We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of September 2014. Our studio apartment was quite large, very modern and very clean. The small kitchen was very useful for preparing our breakfast, which saved us money. There were 2 supermarkets directly across the road from the hotel, which also made it easy. The hotel has its own underground car park which was good as there is not a lot of parking in the street. You will need to check in first and get instructions for the car park, as it is not obvious from the street. There are a number of restaurants in close proximity to the hotel. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.
I stayed here while visiting my son who was taking his semester abroad in Grenoble. It's a very convenient location - right next to the light rail system. The room was - as expected - quite small - but just fine. The staff was helpful and genial. And while I was at the Museum of the French Resistance (highly recommended) - I learned that this hotel had been used as a headquarters by both Nazis and Italian commanders during the occupation. I assume those guys could have stayed any place they wanted - and they picked the Gambetta.
They offer parking in their private garage - but it is very very tight quarters - and my rental car was mid sized - so it was harder than solving a Rubic's cube puzzle and very time consuming to maneuver my car in and out. If you have a big car - look for another solution.

A single night stay in this centrally located hotel that occupies a former military quarters. The overall style is cool and very comfortable. The rooms have high ceiling (*really* high ceilings, 5 m at least), with beautiful windows looking over the mountains. In proximity of the shopping mall "Caserne de Bonne". The center is within easy walking distance.
The hotel opened three years ago: Brand new inside, an existing older building. Not just refurbished, really rebuilt inside., completely new but for a few reminders of the old days such as the "grand escalier" magnificently integrated in a deliberately modern environment.
The staff and management are very welcoming, thoughtful, making sure the hotel deserves its name of "Grand Hotel".
It is a no-brainer to me: Next time I need an hotel in Grenoble, that will be the one.

"Nice hotel, great location, kind and helpful staff"
Great value! The hotel was reasonably priced and our room and bathroom were very clean (my top priority) and comfortable. We asked for a room with a little balcony, and though the view was mostly of the side street, we could see a sliver of the beautiful park that's in front of the hotel. It was nice having the breakfast option - we usually got the continental at the hotel or went out to one of the local cafes and brought back coffee and pastry - but the breakfast room was very nice. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and helped make our stay a nice one!
