We booked a stay for myself and my two daughter for a get together. We originally we booked for one of the smaller building but at check in my daughter asked if we could get a room at the Main Lodge. We were graciously moved to a room in the Main Lodge with no change in price. The staff was friendly and very efficient. My daughters especially liked the wonderful aroma in the halls and lounges. Our room had a beautiful view of the ski slopes ( with their beautiful fall colors), the pond and we were close to the pool and hot tub also. Overall, everything was great and I would love to go there again.

"Excellent location, in the heart of Harbor Springs"
The Colonial Inn is a throwback to the bygone era of the family resort. The hotel would best be described as charming. Don't expect the services of the big chain hotels at this resort, but that is exactly why we like it. I spend 20 nights per year at 5 star hotels, so it is nice to get back to the simple pleasures of a quiet (and large) room with a nice view. Each room has its own balcony with views across the resort property. On this stay we stayed in a room with a peak of Lake Michigan from its balcony.
This is a great hotel for families. The kids are safe anywhere on this property, and typically within view. The pool is situated on a beautiful yard, not in a concrete jungle like so many big resorts. You feel like you are at someone's home.
You can walk to Lake Michigan (Little Traverse Bay) in 2 minutes, or you can head to downtown Harbor Springs with a 10-15 minute walk, or a quick 5 minute bike ride. We always bring our bikes, and the car stays parked the whole time we are in Harbor Springs.
The rooms have all been updated over the last couple of years. Don't expect fancy marble baths, but expect a nice spacious room. The rooms are all of nice size and some even have an extra bedroom, which is great for families. Every room we have stayed in has a fireplace and hardwood floors. They also have a mini fridge.
They have a nice breakfast (typical waffle maker, cereal stuff) in the old dining room of the resort.
