This was the perfect overnight stop - excellent service and very clean, comfortable room. No noise disturbance at night, lots of space and a very atmospheric bar. I didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food, but would imagine it matches the other high standards.
Everything about this hotel was perfect except for the tiny size of the room. There was nowhere comfortable to sit and the space to put your clothing was inadequate and awkward to get at (deep low shelves as opposed to drawers). The reason I would not recommend it is because for the price it was just not worth it. I think they try to make up for the lack of space by doing everything else (service, food, cleanliness, fantastic bathroom) really well. Unfortunately we were still cramped.
Everything was as we had hoped. The only criticism is in respect of how long we had to wait to be served at the bar but it was extremely busy and the staff were very stretched to look after everybody promptly.
we stayed four nights which is apparently unusual as guests mainly stay 1-2nights. Central location in beautiful and unusual building, variety of rooms, with v comfortable firm mattress and lovely pillows, good wet room. The car parking is stupidly expensive considering the nightly rates for rooms. However, the parking on site was really worth while as Oxford is anti-car and we knew the car was safe.
we did not eat in as there is no need to spend £13 for continental breakfast etc., and we ate very well locally; Ask, Prezzo, Pizza Express and many more 'fine dining' are within a short walk
There is so much to see in and around Oxford it is difficult to know where to start but it was good to know our room was nearby to rest and then set off exploring again
very happy to stay at this hotel again. staff very helpful and pleasant. cleanliness and comfort 1st class. parking available and park and ride into Oxford nearby. would have no hesitation recommending it to family and friends.
"Relaxing hotel with good facilities and good food"
Lovely hotel located just outside Oxford. We arrived late in the evening but were made very welcome. Excellent welcome for our dog who was treated as part of the family. Large, extensive gardens (over 60 acres) with plenty of things to do and look at. There's a river - several of the rooms are river rooms with their own patios to sit out. If you want a gym, garden games, croquet, chess, badminton, tennis, cycling - all available. Spa treatments are also available. Staff are amenable. We had breakfast and an evening meal and both were enjoyable and relaxing. One minor negative point to avoid - if you are not quite so mobile you need to make staff aware in advance as some areas involve quite a bit of a walk and steps.
We would definitely recommend this hotel.
I was very impressed with everything in the hotel. There was nothing I could find that was disappointing! I was travelling alone and I felt very comfortable in the bar area where I ate my dinner. I also enjoyed that I could take a walk around the spacious grounds of the hotel and take in the view of the river. The surroundings are peaceful, private and pleasantly unassuming.
I stayed there with my wife while I was in the area on business - I went to work and my wife caught up with friends. I can remember the hotel site from when it was Henley Brewery so it was particularly interesting for me to see the conversion and development. I have to say that, sorry as I was to see the brewery go, the hotel is a triumph and the rooms have been imaginatively converted to provide some comfortable yet quirky accommodation. Our room was over two levels, with a huge bathroom comprising a fantastic stand alone bath and excellent shower. The courtyard would have been a pleasure to have experienced if only the weather had been good enough and the bars and restaurant were cleverly laid out with some quaint nooks and crannies. One slight gripe, which is why my overall rating was "pleasing" rather than "excellent" - for the fairly high price of the room, I should have thought that breakfast ought to have been included, which it wasn't.
