Our 8-night stay

Fabulous wee cottage and location
From opening the gate and seeing the beautiful grounds/plantings to stepping into the wee cottage I knew this was going to be a great place for a break. Had a week here and loved everything... the beach and river, friendly people I meet when out for a walk. Bridget was very responsive. Hope to be back.

Best stay!
Honestly what can we say you had the beach and river right there so multiple swimming options, The property was fully fenced so it was perfect for taking our dogo meant we could keep the doors open all day without having to worry about where she was. The house was warm and dry and the perfect place for a quiet getaway would highly recomend!

Fabulous little cottage/cabin - So well equipped!
PROS: This bach was incredibly well equipped and comfortable and contained all the bits and pieces you need for self-catering. It was also very tastefully decorated and was situated in a lovely garden with beautiful plants and imaginative arty touches. The instructions we received were well written and enabled us to settle in and use the accommodation with no need to contact the owner and ask further questions. The bedroom was air-conditioned so we were able to get a good night’s sleep despite the unusually hot weather. From the eating area you could look out onto small pleasant grassy hills. The beach was within easy/moderate walking distance. Good food shopping was available about 10 mins away by car at Hawera. There is a nice little veranda on the north side where you can sit and survey the hills and garden. There are a number of interesting trips you can do from Ohawe and we filled our week there quite happily. CONS: it did get hot in the bach during the day during the 30+ temperatures we experienced. The owners can’t help the weather and at least the bedroom was air-conditioned. The beach at Ohawe was a bit off-putting for us from Queensland where we are used to lovely white sand. Here the sand was quite dark, almost black. We had known about this but hadn’t realised how hot the sand becomes in the sun. Ohawe itself is very quiet, but OK if that is what you want. The nearest town, Hawera, provides what you need, but is not that interesting. SUMMARY: We were happy!

An effortless stay in a lovely bach in a tiny seaside village
The bach was cosy, clean and comfy, and perfect for 2 nights exploring a part of NZ we'd never been to. It had absolutely everything we needed (and a whole lot more we didn't have time to use) and is very thoughtfully and tastefully arranged. Near enough to Hawera for supplies but in a really lovely tiny quiet village. The little bbq on the deck was a winner.

A cosy elegant cottage
So cosy and warm and every comfort provided by our hosts. In the heart of the quiet village and close to the drama of beach and cliffs, we couldn’t have been more cared for and entertained. This was a most enjoyable few days. We so admired and appreciated all the planting in the garden and the art works in the cottage. Thank you!

Everything you’re looking for and more
Amazing little home with everything you’d possibly need while staying there. Really comfy and cosy to hang out in during a couple of bad weather days that we had. Never stayed in a place that is as well equipped as this one. Would stay here again and highly recommend to couples.

Away from it All
Small and neat, just the perfect size to get away from it all - work, kids, etc - and relax with some me time. Beach is a short walk away and perfect to let the dogs run, albeit tidal so you have to get the timing right. Pretty well located for exploring the area - Hawera is a 10min drive and has all the necessities, Stratford 30min and New Plymouth just over an hour.

Tidy little holiday house
Thanks for the stay. Appreciate the 11am check out with the offer to extend this. Sunny porch. Not sure what to do about the ventilation and dampness on windows in the morning - other than keeping a window open. A hose somewhere would be useful to hose sand off the dog from the beach. Cheers

Everything was better than we had expected. The only constructive criticism I can think of would be, the tumblers were a bit like drinking out of jam jars, we bought some finer rimmed ones to use, but that was no big deal. Great value for money.

Beautiful property. Felt like we were in the tropics. Warm cozy home, well furnished with everything you would need. I would only recommend a small portable oven but otherwise just a fantastic stay. It was close to a ruggered long beach but you must catch the tide correctly as at high tide there is very little sand to walk on. At low tide you have a huge beach to explore.

We loved our stay at Ohawe with our dog. Excellent communication from the host. The cottage was beautiful, clean and quiet. It was so private with the front gate. We loved our walks down to the beautiful moana and awa. The supermarket and town was a quick drive too. Would highly recommend and definitely want to come back.

This cottage is exactly as described, cute and cosy, dog-friendly (fully fenced including for smaller dogs), feels private and secluded, and is only a short walk away from the beach. A very peaceful place to stay, no cell coverage but there is wifi if you want to stay connected.

This was such a lovely cottage. The location was great - very quiet with a lovely private garden and the beach within a few minutes walk. The accommodation was excellent with everything that you could need and all was of very high quality with a very homely feel. We had a wonderful couple of days here and wished we could have stayed longer!

Fantastic
This property is beautiful! It’s a little village full of love, laughter and good people. There are absolutely no services there but plenty of beautiful people to help accommodate your needs and a good grocery service. The Bach has absolutely no cell service and it was a concern for me because my husband and I are older and if something happened we would be SOL. With the fact a landline would make the place safer overall. Bridget is great and she has a gems of a partner. Paul is really down to earth and just an overall great person. We would definitely return to the property again.

Perfect Beach Hideaway
We had a lovely long weekend at this perfect little beach hideaway. Sparkling clean, basking in sun, fully fenced (which was great for our little dog). Predominant sounds? Birdsong and the flow of the river. If you need to getaway from it all, this is your place ;) Excellent communication (and kindness)from the host. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or stay again.

A little Gem
A lovely stay, so cosy during the cold weather we had. We stayed 13 days and found everything was great. The only thing I missed was an oven, although there was a Webber Barbeque which would have been fine except the weather wasn't conducive to outdoor cooking while we were at Ohawe. It's a lovely place to stay, quiet, close to the beach and Hawera. Quite the best equipped acommodation I've ever come across. Everything had been thought of. Highly recommend and we hope to return one day.
