Nicosia, the multicultural capital of Cyprus, is divided into the Greek Cypriot area in the south and the smaller Turkish Cypriot area in the north. The heart of the city is the old quarter, encircled by a 16th-century Venetian wall with a moat. Within, the narrow streets are lined with shops and cafés. Outside, modern Nicosia bustles with office buildings, museums and nightlife.
