Family Tree and History Adventure
Nauvoo was a mid point ti meet a family member and continue work on our family tree. The historical site was the main reason we chose Nauvoo. A little search on Vrbo, we found a historic home to stay in. What a treat! The rental was beyond the price point we usually seek but the home was the cherry on top of a wonderful visit. Very nice property

Amazing, historic home with many modern conveniences.
This is an amazing pioneer home and property. It is thoughtfully decorated and filled with historical documents, art, and other period pieces. It was hard to leave. I will be coming back!

Pioneer House was Super Fun
We absolutely loved staying in this pioneer house decorated with antiques. It was a very unique experience and my kids thought it was so fun. The modern kitchen and bath amenities and A/C made it very comfortable. The host was responsive and helpful. The only suggestion I have is to change the number of people it sleeps to 5 - two in the master and three in the kids room. If you count the couch downstairs or the blowup mattress or the cot then you could say 6 but I think that would be the max. The little bed in the hall would only work for a toddler.

Great stay
We had a great time with our family for the weekend. The ambiance really adds some authenticity to the historic Nauvoo experience. The old quirks of the house are part of the adventure. The owners were very helpful!

It was such a fun experience seeing all of the amazing historical homes around Nauvoo and then to get to come home and live in one! Totally immersive experience and the perfect VRBO experience. Couldn't recommend it more.

Good location, authentic experience
The house offers a very authentic experience. It’s definitely a pioneer house but with some modern conveniences, like a shower, washer and dryer, refrigerator, etc. Keep in mind that since it is a pioneer house, it can feel tight depending on how many people you have staying. We had our family of six so one of the kids ended up in the master with us on the provided cot. The owners were great about responding to our questions. The instructions for the house were descriptive and helpful. We appreciated them mentioning their diligence with pest control but also the warning that we may encounter a critter or two since the house is old and surrounded by fields. We found a few baby mice under one of the beds, so the warning was much appreciated!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mix House. The property was well taken care of. We really liked staying in a historic property. We came to Nauvoo to tour the pioneer historical church sites and it made it even more fun to stay in a pioneer home.

There was no blow up mattress or bbq grill but the hosts were very good at immediately helping us with anything we needed. We absolutely loved the décor and feel of the home. Will stay again in a heartbeat

It was a special treat to stay in this historic home with our family. It felt like we were transported back in time. Lots of little thoughtful touches including the delicious soft gingersnap cookies upon arrival! We very much enjoyed our stay!

Absolutely Fantastic!
Oh how I appreciate that someone would care for this old house, furnish it with beautiful antiques, and then share it!! After all he church history tours we'd done, it was a dream to stay in one of the old houses. There was so much to do in Nauvoo, my only regret is that we didn't have more time to just be at the house and soak it all in. But we loved every minute we were there. The owners were great to work with, all was as described, and then some. WE LOVED this sweet house. Thank you!

A peaceful weekend stay!
We had a nice stay in the Mix House. With two young children (7 and 5) we had to be mindful of too much curiosity about some of the antiques, but the upside of learning about history, playing in the yard, and unplugging a bit was definitely worth it. The cheese and pie shop across the road was a bonus!

We had a great experience! We had 8, it was a bit of a tight squeeze. We loved feeling like we stepped back in time! The children loved the outdoor space to play. We bought groceries in the neighboring town and cooked all our meals in the house. Bring paper plates to ease dishes! Loved Nauvoo and We would stay in the Mix house again!

Like being in an1850s Illinois farmhouse (with an appliance-updated kitchen) but well-concealed 2000s necessities make it modern-day livable. Great, unique experience overall with few complaints.

This property has been tastefully and thoroughly renovated, and is very well maintained - all of the modern amenities with complete respect for the historical nature of the house. We had a most enjoyable time on this property and visiting historical sites. A wonderful breakfast, and pleasant interactions with owners/local host. Highly recommended!!!

We enjoyed our stay. The property and home are beautiful. The location is great - both close to everything and just a step off the path, providing great quiet and beautiful scenery. Deer, bunnies, birds, beautiful stargazing and a wonderful evening “symphony” in the trees added to the charm of this home and property. Kitchen was well-stocked and easy enough to prepare foods. Comfortable, clean beds. The modern amenities in this home compliment ans do not interfere with it’s pioneer-era authenticity. Loved staying here and would stay again.

Amazing authentic and comfortable stay!
When we pulled up to Mix House our whole family (ages 10-20 plus parents) kind of flipped out that we got to stay in this beautiful home! It feels SO authentic and charming but has all the modern comforts you could want. The delicious cookies were a nice surprise. We spent quite a bit of time looking around the home and yard and admiring all the beautiful antiques. I can’t imagine a better place to stay for a visit to Nauvoo. We felt fully immersed in the pioneer experience. I will be recommending your beautiful home to anyone I know making a trip here.

Can’t wait to go back!
We spent two nights at The Mix House and it was the perfect getaway for our family. The mixture of history and comfortable accommodations provided us memories for a lifetime. My children loved playing hide and seek inside and outside in the yard. Everyone was especially infatuated with the summer kitchen; we can’t wait to go back and use it! We made good use of both the fireplace and the woodstove due to the bitter cold temps; it just added to the coziness of our whole weekend. The owners were extremely responsive during planning and when we had a quick question while we were there. I did reach out to The Apron Bake Shoppe and arranged to have dinner waiting for us when we arrived, as well as a birthday cake for my husband. Her food and customer service was phenomenal. And the cookies??? Oh my goodness! They were amazing! The Mix House is convenient to all of the historical sites in Nauvoo. Even though most were closed due to COVID, we spent quite a few hours exploring and peeking in windows. We were also in close proximity to Ft. Madison, IA and made a quick journey to see the fort and visit a charming little museum. Thank you for sharing The Mix House and its history with us!

Picturesque home with period charm
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Nauvoo Mix House. We've stayed in Nauvoo several times, but this time we decided to try a house instead of a hotel suite. The Mix House is just a few minutes from shopping on Mulholland Street, the temple, Old Nauvoo sites, Nauvoo State Park or Joseph Smith family sites. The restored house takes care to keep the overall feel of the 1840s period while not sacrificing modern amenities. You'll have to roll up your sleeves and hand wash dishes, but that's a small price to pay for absorbing the feel of this lovely home. Wall decor throughout the home offers small glimpses into the historical nature of the home and past residents. We loved reading about how a former Nauvoo mayor added on to the house so he could sleep in the city limits. The bed in the dining room made a lot more sense with this story in mind. We would gladly stay in the Mix House again on future visits to Nauvoo.

Definitely a historical home
The Mix House is a well-done restored historical home giving the 1846 house modern conveniences of AC, kitchen appliances, and nice bathrooms. It definitely added to the pioneer experience to actually stay in a home like this while touring Nauvoo. The location is beautiful and not too far away from historical Nauvoo. However, just to note, we had 7 people in our family and it was a little cramped. There are only 5 spots in real beds. And the bedrooms don't have very much extra space for cots and luggage. Also, the wifi never worked for us. We tried on multiple devices and asked Nancy about it but it was non existent for us. All in all, we enjoyed our stay.

Charming experience
We loved staying in the Mix House. It brought a wonderful touch to our visit to Old Nauvoo. We loved sitting on the back porch in the evening watching the fireflies, bunnies in the front yard and the morning dove nesting above the front door. The home is obviously older and for us added to the experience. Also we loved the yummy cookies Nancy made for our family the last night. We would definitely recommend this home for anyone wanting a memorable family vacation.

Thanksgiving vacation
What a wonderful place to enjoy a family get away. We have six kids under the age of 14 and this house accommodated us perfectly. The master bed is so comfortable and the bedding extremely beautiful for that time period. The kids loved asking questions about all the antiques. Nancy was very prompt in answering our questions and even sending stuff back to us that we accidentally forgot. We hope to return again next year.

Fabulous re-finished pioneer home
Clean, comfy, with great hosts. Nancy & Lon we’re very helpful and good communicators during our stay. The home was perfect. Be aware WiFi is contingent on signal quality reaching the host home, which can be very spotty.
