Osaka city may be constantly changing, but the country’s love for tranquil gardens has remained for centuries. Nakanoshima Park sits in between the Dojimagawa and Tosaborigawa rivers, so it is separated from city buildings by the coursing water. Wander through the rose garden and relax on the grassy areas or simply stroll along the park’s shaded paths.
This green haven offers 10.6 hectares (26 acres) of lawns, ferns and tall trees in the centre of the city. Take a break from the busy streets and urban development of Osaka and surround yourself with calming nature. Join the locals strolling along the tree-lined paths day and night.
The park is split into two parts, separated by water. The eastern section features expertly cultivated garden beds with interesting designs. Take a seat at the café or stretch out on the manicured lawns and enjoy a coffee or cold drink. Visit the rose garden in spring to see the delicate blooms flowering.
Visit the western part to use its expansive grassy lawn for a ball game or picnic. Spread out a picnic blanket under the tall, leafy trees. Bring your own food or buy takeaway snacks from the park’s café. Join in on a friendly game of soccer with the locals.
Spot the statue installations that are dotted around the area. Relax on the western lawns until sunset and see spotlights on the ground illuminate the old tree trunks.
Many other attractions are near to Nakanoshima Park, such as the Museum of Oriental Ceramics. See the Osaka Central Public Hall with its Western style of architecture.
Reach Nakanoshima Public Park from west by the matsuya-machi-suji paths or from the east by the Sakai-suji Bridge. The park is free to enter and open every day.
