The hotel is fine, the rooms are fine and clean. It's a great location next to izmailovo market, where we bought loads of souvenirs. It's part of a large complex, including other hotels such as Delta and Gamma and lots of restaurants and facilities.
However, real issues with the check in process. The first 30-45 mins was spent at Gamma, as she tried to locate our booking. Even showing her the paid-for booking on the hotels.com app wasn't enough. Worse, there seems to be prevalent attitude that it was somehow our fault - like "Is it definitely Izmailovo Moscow you booked?", as if we were idiots. Finally, after chatting with a supervisor, we were given a new booking reference and told to go to Hotel Delta.
At hotel Delta, after another long wait, the first 30 seconds was spent by the receptionist talking over the top of us that we'd booked Gamma and not Delta. Our fault again, apparently, until she finally listened to us that we'd been sent there from Gamma.
Things were looking up, but after waiting ages while she photocopied everything (including my old expired visas from prior Russian trips?), I was suddenly told I had an extra 380 roubles to pay. At this point I'd had enough, as I'd clearly paid via hotels.com checkout. She finally waived that but not before accusations that I had obviously got a bank transfer wrong.
I suspect that was an attempt to get me to pay for the gamma-delta upgrade. Not our fault though.
Left us with 1 hour less of moscow to enjoy.
