The overall hospitality was brilliant, no complaints there. However in terms of amenities provided, there is still some scope of upgrade. E.g. the vanity kits provided in the rooms is not up to the mark of a 5 star hotel.

We loved the people and the hotel very much. It would have been nice to know the pool was closed - we chose the hotel because of the pool. The website could have been more clear about the pool—goodness knows I was in the site many times out of sheer excitement. On our first day we were provided water, coffee and milk pots. The next day we had coffee, water but no milk pots. The third day we only received one water and again no milk pots. On the fourth day we received no water, coffee, milk pots or cups and saucers. It was mystifying! We like our morning coffee!

The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The surrounding area is quiet and safe. This hotel is not in the city center and a long walk to Belem so if you want to see tourists sites and shop without having to taxi or uber this may not be for you. Uber to city center was only 10 euro. Lovely lovely hotel.

We had a problem with the tv . The remote did not work properly. They came out to fix it three times but failed. The a/c didn’t work and they had to come and fix it .

The property itself was beautiful; an early 20th century Palace with lovely gardens. Most of the staff were very accomodating and helpful, but for one rude and stiff front desk clerk. We were disappointed as this staff person demanded the application of their cancelation policy be adhered to, when we had a circumstance that prevented us from making the first night of our 3 day stay. His stingy insistance colored the luxury experie we had hoped for and expected, and because of it, we will not again patronize the Pestana Hotels.

The staff were wonderful. We were on our honeymoon and they made us feel special by upgrading our suite and sending complimentary sparkling wine and chocolates to our room. The staff helping with luggage/valet service were so kind and sweet. The only downside was that the property is a bit old and our room sort of felt like a dungeon in the basement. Some maintenance and renos would have significantly improved the quality of my stay. Also the breakfast was delightful and the wait staff were great.

The pool itself is in need of many repairs, walkway around pool has several loose sidewalk panels, making them unstable. The marble or granite panels all around the pools top circumference need to be replaced as they are deteriorating due to the water flowing over them, and have sharp edges. Air conditioning unit in my room did not work properly, never produces cold air, could never hit the setpoint? Fan blows, but never got cool enough. Change out all toilets in the Hotel to NorthAmerican type toilets, that actually flush waste fully and completely...as the Euro toilets are pretty much useless! You need to flush several times just to get everything out? This is a problem across Portugal. No idea why in 2023 we have this ridiculous problem still? Shower water pressure is also not strong enough? At a hotel like this I expect better. Lastly, the wonderful gardens seem to be over run with grasses and weeds, and the actual plants are quite overgrown and wild looking? How is this even acceptable to the Management there? My personal yard, which is far larger than those gardens is in far better shape? Again, a very simple item, but it not up to par for a hotel like this? Why?

A beautiful Pousada located next to the Roman Temple. The Pousada is an easy walk to all of Evora. The staff at the Pousada are terrific!

Good - but probably 4*
Good experience here at the Pestana palace hotel. The hotel was a great base for our trip as we had planned a hybrid city and beach break - so the location allowed us to easily go city centre or out to the coast and Cascais. The room itself was clean and tidy - but a little worn in places, and the bathroom similar. It didn’t have the crisp feel of a 5* hotel, but we were very comfortable there. We chose a room with a balcony and this was disappointing; as we had a garden view - but actually looked at a bush… and had no view. Facilities in the hotel were good overall, the gym was compact but adequate, and the pool was nice. Breakfast was superb, with a vast offfering - but on each day the eggs were stone cold. We were disappointed that the gardens were barren and not luscious and full of flower, given this is such a vast area of the hotel. Our final disappointment was the cost of a drink - 9euros for a large beer at the pool is ridiculous. It’s a shame the inside of the palace doesn’t have a vibey atmosphere on an evening, and a shame the prices aren’t a little keener as we would have loved to enjoy those rooms but found them empty and costly to have an aperitif in. Overall, nice hotel - would revisit, but lacks that 5* charm. Would call it a 4* with an amazing feature of the palace.
